Speed Traps in Deer Creek Canyon

    All -

I have a very good friend, and fellow rider, that lives in Deer Creek Canyon. He was pulled over this morning on his way to work for riding 50mph around a corner.

Turns out, our friends in blue are planning many more speed traps through the canyon this summer starting THIS weekend. The officer said that Saturdays are planned to be "full force" days and they're ready to write tickets boys and grils. So, be safe, ride slow, and keep your detectors on full scan through Deer Creek Canyon.

I suggest we start a "Where we see the police run radar" thread to keep fellow CSC riders updated. Not so that we are better able to ride above the speed limit but so we can enjoy riding without having to look down at the speedo every 4 seconds. Here's my contribution:

Just another reason to get out of town earlier in the A.M. and go further into the hills.

I'm in the market for a new radar/laser detector for my bike. Any recommendations? I ride a 05 ZX-636.

Valentine makes one of the best. Hearing and seeing the RADAR advisories is critical. However, if you are diligent and keep an eye on the screen, you can get away with a Cobra for 60 -100 bucks. That's what I have and I've ridden next to the Vals and it works nearly the same. But, nothing beats a sharp eye and speeds reasonable to fast thrust reduction.

As for radar detectors, I run with an Escort 8500. Many testers and reviewers rate this as one of the best out there in terms of detection ability. The company that makes Escort is the same company that makes many of the radar guns that cops use. To augment this I use a H.A.R.D. system. This stands for Helmet Assisted Radar Detection. There is a transmitter that plugs into the Escort where you plug the power in. The other piece is the receiver that sits in the helmet. There is an LED that sits in your peripheral vision. When the radar detector goes off, the led starts blinking. It works awesome. When that LED starts blinking, I immediately slow down. I can then look down to determine whether it is a true or false signal. It has saved me several tickets so far I am sure.

How is everyone powering their detectors? I was looking at the wiring diagrams and the turn signals appear to be 12v and ought to be easy to splice into - what have you all done?
