Suggestions for long weekend trip?

I have 4 days off over Memorial Day weekend and want to get away on the bikes with T-byrd.

I have been wanting to head over to Ouray to ride the million $ hywy since the roads and scenery are awesome to say the least. I also know of some great overnight stops from previous trips there.

Does anyone have any suggestions for other possible destinations that might be interesting? If you know of good hotels, resturants, B&Bs, etc, please let me know. (C'mon Nick_Ninja, I know you've got somthing!)

wife and i are loading up the bike and doing the same over that weekend. whats this about ouray? where would be a good place to stay? what is the hwy # you are talking about?

Well --------- hummmmmm I have known to pass through Ouray once in a blue moon

I prefer to camp out (which Dalton and a bunch of old MRAers are planning to do that weekend) but I have stayed in a couple of B & B's down that way. In any case --- make SURE you get to the North Rim of The Black Canyon of the Gunnison. One of the best MC roads in this state. It is CO 92 on the map. You won't be disappointed. be sure to either a.) drive the road OR b.) gawk at the seanery. You can't do both on that road.

Restrictions in Place: Reopens Friday, May 28, weather permitting.
Comments: Maintenance crews clearing road as weather permits.

I've stayed in a couple of B&B's in Crested Butte and in Telluride. Nice but $$pricey$$ Check out this link. It covers most all areas here in Colorado:



Be sure to take pleanty of warm stuff to wear and RAIN GEAR. Memorial Day can bring SNOW. Red Mountain WILL BE COLD. If you get to Silverton then check out the Pickle Barrel Restaurant. Good grub there.

Coal Bank & Molas Passes are wwwaaaaaaaaaayyyy fun for twisties. Those roads take you to Durango.

Since you're heading that way, Grand Mesa kicks butt. It's a great road and it's a great road, too. Nice twisties, low traffic, kick booty scenery. It's just a nice one. From I-70, turn left just before you get to Grand Junction... you can't miss the signs.

Thanks for the advice. I know I need to invest in rain gear before we go.

We had stayed at the Spangler House B&B and ate at the BonTon (awesone dinner!) last time we were through Ouray. We also found a great Mex resturant in Gunnison called Cafe Silvestre.

I am planning on making a loop through Ouray to Durango then back around through Lake City to Gunnison. I just need to figure out where our overnight stops will be along the way. I can't wait to get out of town!!

One of the top MC roads in Colorado is often overlooked: Hwy 141 from Whitewater (just south of Grand Junction on Hwy 50) to Naturita. Outstanding canyons and the road is always been clear and smooth. No decreasing radius corners; almost as if designed by a rider!
