Fuel Injection Issue....

Well Wahoo#1 is just about ready to roll again. My bro has gotten the plastics from Ebay and we have put it back together. Once it is painted it will look brand new...again it only had 1,700 miles on it when it went down. Anyway I fired it up today and drove it around the block. Runs like a champ or so I thought. As I came back towards my house it just died....just like the kill switch was turned on or something. I walked it to the driveway and it will crank but not fire. The fuel pump acts like it wants to fire up, but does not go through the whole pumping type noise it usually does. I also noticed the "FI" code on the gauge cluster and the red light blinking. I looked this up in the book and it just says that the vehicle will not start and it has to be taken into a dealership. Anyone hear know anything about diagnosing this or does it have to go to the damn dealer again. I am going to search the web, but thought someone here has run into this before. Again, there is plenty of juice, fuel in tank, and power, but I would presume the fuel pump is not sending fuel to the cylinders since it is not functioning??? HELP

I'd be pretty certain that the FI light indicates a fault that's stored and that can be retrieved by putting the bike in 'dealer mode'. That's how it works on the Suzuki TLs, and I doubt it's different with the GSXRs. Anyway, I've got a dealer mode switch, but if you know where the plug is located on the bike (on the TL it's behind the rear plastics beside the trunk space), all you need is a paper clip to complete the circuit to show the error code on the guage's LCD. It's best to have a service manual to know for sure what the indicated code means, but if you retrieve the code, I would think you could call a dealer and that they would tell you what it is.

Wahoo - under the tail, you'll find a square plug with a cover on it, and TWO wires going to it. (there's another with like 5 wires, don't touch that one). On this two wire plug, with the FI error light on (your LCD should also show 'FI'), short the connectors. After a couple seconds the display will show 'Cxx' where the 'xx' is the actual error code. 'C00' means no error (which I doubt). Anything else is a problem - post back with the code and we can look it up for you.

Sounds like wiring perhaps? But let's wait to see what the code says. Does the fuel pump make any noise at all when you turn the key/kill switch on? If it does but it's brief, does lifting the tank help (pinched line perhaps?)... If it makes no noise, lift the tank and make sure the pump wires are still connected securely.

Yes the pump does make some noise but does not fully pump like it should. It made this same noise when the fuel pump was unplugged, but it is plugged in, I lifted the tank and checked. I will look into the code and let ya know....
