For any of the new'ish guys that were out there, you all did a great job being the first time, trust me on that. I must say that I was one of the slow'est guys out there too my first time so don't worry about the speed.
It's a huge learning curve with learning the proper technique, lines, being smooth on and off the throttle/brakes, so many things to learn. I am still trying to work my way up this learning curve too just like you.
Firefghtr - totaled? Geesus, it didn't look that bad - frame bent?
Sorry @ that man
So how's the surface? I'm waiting for the the track to cure and get some rubber down before I head out. Looks like you guys are going pretty good, so I'm guessing it's ready.

Surface is nice and smooth w/ a couple of slight groves between the swaths of blacktop around a couple of corners (right hander after the straight, and last tight right hander before the final left). It may be a little slick for experienced/fast folks, but for me it was super.
Slick because it's new or because of the way they paved it?

The two spots I had any trouble at was at the top left corner where they'd laid concrete dust down (based on previous posts) and on the right turn after the straightaway (at the top). There was a bunch of pavement gravel bits (not gravel but remnents of the new pavement; bits of gravel ). I believe there's a line of concrete dust there as well.

The only real problem problem as I saw it is at the top of the straightaway as you lean into the right turn, there's a slight hump. That's where my front end got wobbly and I had to run off into the dirt. The wobble had me straightening out, then into the gravel bits, then I stood it up rather than drop it in the dirt. Later encounters had me exerting more control over the handlebars so I could power my way through it.

Speaking of running off, there looks like quite a drop down to the dirt, more than there used to be. I've never gone off but want to be prepared now that it's actually paved like a real track.

I went off on the turn getting onto the back strait. It was like a 4" jump back on.
There was a weird little dip in the middle of the track on the super tight left hander that slid my rear tire out a few times.

You're welcome. It's crazy- every time I show up at the track, I wish I'd brought more/different tools. And Aaron (Clarkie) is pretty handy with a wrench- especially as he races the same bike.
And all the new guys looked really good. I don't think I saw anyone looking over their shoulders at me- if you don't know, my motard is freakin' loud, so you know it's coming...
I thought the track was leaps and bounds better than it used to be. There's a couple of spots to pay attention to, but nothing like it used to be.
As to the broken 636, buy it back from the insurance company. Really. If you retain ownership, the title is still clean. Doesn't say anything about salvage at all. And typically with flea-Bay, it's super cheap to put it back together.
Good time today at IMI. Nice to see Jay, Rob, Ian and Bat. The track is in good shape and should get pretty sticky throughout the rest of the summer. I have some pics and I'll post up when I get off my lazy A.
Pilot you did really good out there, I am sure everyone will be thoroughly impressed. Bat, your friend was doing awesome as well with his new bike!!!
How late do they close on the weekday? I was thinking of going over after work today since I'll be out of town Friday and Saturday.

...you're one of them, aren't you? No, I'm something else...

How crowded is the track on fridays?
