I would get the one piece shin guards that go up to your knees. Elbows are probably less important and can make it kinda annoying for range of motion.

That depends on how bad you wanna scrape up your knees and arms.

Last Saturday, while camping, I took a quick night lap through a rock field with only my helmet and gloves on. My knee and forearm are F'ed up from a very small crash.

You should bring that bad boy up to Red Cone this Saturday with us...

Fuck yea! If I didn't have hard elbow pads on when I met Mr. tree a couple weekends ago I would have one screwed up arm. It is still sore and bruised but without them it would be broken.

One time I got stopped for speeding on the Colordo Utah boarder
and after a discussion with the Officer about Bannana's, pockets and glad tidings to all he let me off with a warning
and a farewell of "I am always on this strech of highway and I will be watching for you."
My response "I feel so much better knowing that you Officer Pennywise will be looking out for me."
    WAIT WHAT??!!!!!

Get all the gear available!!! That said, I still don't have elbow pads. I really need to get a set. Knee/shin gaurds are about as important as they get IMO. Come hit up Rampart (or wherever) with us G!!!

I wear a set of the PODMX knee protectors. Pricey but worth it (I love being able to walk). You can get them from FOX Racing for $300 a piece.
