    520 chain conversion

How many of you track riders/racers have converted? Did you switch your sprockets as well? If so what size did you use for the front/rear?
I have a 2006 suxuki gsxr 750 which i take to the track in pueblo on a regular basis. Im just trying to figure out if i should do the switch since my chain needs to be replaced anyways and if i should change the sprockets.

You must switch the sprockets to 520 size when you switch the chain to a 520 size.
The 520 chain is smaller, which means less rotating weight.
The draw back is that the smaller chain may not last as long as the larger chain. But there are many factors to chain life.

You could ask Alan, #313 on the Corner One race team. He races a GSXR750.

And you should always change your chain and sprockets together. If the teeth on your sprockets are wore, putting only a new chain on only could cause it to wear out quicker.
Also a high quality chain such as a DID ERV3 will last as long in the 520 size as the 525 your bike came stock with.

agree w/ jim... a good 520 chain (DID ERV3) will last you a very long time... however most 520 rear sprockets are aluminum (though you can get steel) and those rears wont last nearly as long.

i dont mind the shorter life of a 520 chain.
so is it a good choice to switch over from 525 to 520?

If you are changing everything anyways you might as well do the 520, but to change a stock setup just to get "lighter" on a street/track bike is a waste of $ until it needs replaced. Some people change their gearing at this point also, but that will also throw your speedo/odo off unles you get a speedo healer or the like.
