A prominent and respected Jewish businessman died,
and the community was gathered in the synagogue to honor him.
The Rabbi intoned solemnly,
"Our dear departed Saul will be sorely missed. He was a good husband, a loving father, he was...."
At this point a tiny old lady at the back whispers,
"Geef heem a leettle cheecken zoup."
The Rabbi discreetly ignores her and goes on,
"Saul was a beloved community man, a pillar of the synagogue, a fine business man....."
Again, the old lady, a little louder this time, says,
"Geef heem a leettle cheecken zoup."
The Rabbi clears his throat and turns a stern eye to her, then continues,
"Saul was a man who would give a stranger the shirt off.......
The old lady interupts yet again, this time practically screaming from the back of the room,
"Geef heem a leettle cheecken zoup!"
The Rabbi can't ignore her any longer and throwing his arms up exclaims,
"Madam, This man is DEAD; chicken soup will NOT help him!"
To which the old woman calmly replies,
"Eh.......It couydn't hoyt!"
