Ok, so for all those who are curious...I took the cage and my girls for a late afternoon drive. Here's what we saw...
Hwy34 = north-facing road
- construction about 6 miles in just past the "narrows" for about 100 feet...road down to one lane until August
- shady and cold
- more sand/gravel along edge and in middle of road
- sand/gravel in the 2 long passing lanes after Drake
Hwy7 = south-facing road
- upper hwy7 past Lily Lake lots of gravel in middle, along edge and in the lanes for at least 5 miles
- sand/gravel along edge and middle yellow line for the rest of the journey, but not as thick
- water run-off at the beginning of some corners in Eastbound lane - possibility of mixing with mag chloride, but the water is only in a few spots
Disclaimer: If you're a Colorado native, you know this snow shower really was just a shower.
Amazing Colorado contrast (still upper hwy7)
One of many turns along lower hwy7.
Hwy36 = south-facing roadActually, you know why we really went up to Estes?
- we did not take this road, but I figure it's about the same as hwy7
