    who wants to go to pikes peak 7/31/11 yes it's another early ride

    I just discovered that they have pretty much all of pikes peak toll road paved with the exception of a 3 mile stretch which wont kill me.

    I'm not doing an early morning run next weekend because I have to get the bike ready for cortez on the 12th


    thusly I have decided I want to go to pikes peak tomorrow morning it is $12 to go on the toll road to the top of pikes peak.


    acorn gas station in the springs be there @ 0730 if anyone from Denver wants to go shoot me a text 303-944-6704

    gloves
    jacket
    boots
    pantaloons

    Interested - but if you're leaving the Springs at 7:30 that means you'll be getting to the top around 8:30.

    It's going to be really cold that early at 14,000 feet.

    Maybe move it back a bit? Or ride somewhere else first and hit PP on the way back?

    Fully aware of the shrunken Wang factor if anything I can push it to be in the springs by 830 but can't go any later than that

    I have been up there for the last few months working and can say that the hwy is paved except between just before the ski area and Glen Cove. Most of that should be paved by early Sept.

    Wikipedia (which boost a 110% accuracy rating) says all but the last 3 miles to the summit are paved.

    The total highway is 19 miles. After Pikes Peak I'll probably head on to Deckers.

    Btw, this early and at 14100 feet it will be a tad cold. I would bring a long sleeve shirt to wear over your usual tshirt and tuck it in later once we're done. (ie under cargo straps, tank bag, ect).

    Sounds good. I may have to make that treck next weekend when I get home! Pikes Peak has some killer views on clear days! You guys get any pics?

    Yes sir we did, views were pretty awesome. It rained pretty hard out there a few days ago so some areas had loose gravel on the road but for the most part it was sweet.
