    Any recommendations on boots?

I picked up a track suit (Teknic Chicane) and am getting some better tires for my 250 Ninja on Saturday, so I'll be ready to head out to IMI real soon.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good pair of boots to get that would work well for both street and track riding? Most of my time will be spent on the street. I am currently just using a pair of heavy hiking boots.

Is there such a thing as a boot that would work well for both?

Sidi is the only way to go. Check out www.motonation.com select Sidi at the top, then scroll to the bottom to veiw sale items. They usually have some good street boots at decent prices. If there aren't many good sale items, just check out their normal line. Both the street racing and the street cruiser.

I was going to throw this question out too. If I can piggyback your question (no intention to threadjack) is there a decent boot for track that's mid/low $$ range? I know Sidi makes great stuff, and so do some other high end ones, but any recomendation for less costly options? and why you think this?

Check out these boots on special from New Enough.

These are made in the same factory as the Sidi's but cost quite a bit less

and these from Oxtar- I'm riding in Oxtars and like them.

Take a look at the Sidi boots on the motonation page- http://motonation.com/sidistreetracing.htm You dont have to spend $425 on the Verigo Corsa to get a good boot. The B2 is priced at $235 and the Strada Evo Air at $220.

    Re: Any recommendations on boots?

    Great info guys, thanks!
My mistake, I thought all Sidi's were $400. Looking at them, there does seem to be a noticable difference in support (comparing the Setups and lower end Sidi's). For a person doing canyon rides and some days at IMI or ever a track day at PMP; are you really compromising your safety for the cheaper ones? Are you getting a lot more boot for the $100. Being a bum/student, my natural inclination is to lean towards the cheaper ones, but not if I'll have to pay it in medical bills Any thoughts?

    Thanks again for the help.

If you have a wide foot, you may want to stay away from Sidis and try on some Alpinstars. I can barely fit into most Sidi's, so I now have 2 pair of A* SMX Plus boots that I absolutely love. I got one pair for $50 used and the other on ebay for $150 new. Definitely try several on before you buy any!! Also, keep in mind that certain boots are made more for show than for riding (aka ICON). Sit on a bike with the boots to make sure they're still comfortable for riding/shifting/braking.

Those Sidi boots do look nice. They do look kind of hard-core though. They look like they would be great for protection/support on a track day, but would they be comfortable on a long street ride?

The B2 is a great boot. I raced with that boot all last year and will again this year. Several crashes and never a foot injury. Of course you can get injured even with the best boots, but in my opinion, I would not go any lower then the B2.

I have worn my Vertigo Corsa's on all day ride in the mountains without any issues. IMHO they are much more comfortable than the Alpinestars that I previously wore.

Bad luck with SETUP boots from New Enough....

I bought some SETUP boots and they lasted all of ONE weekend. The zipper seperated and would no longer work. I sent them back. Personally I'd stay away from them. You get what you pay for. I'm waiting for my Teknic Violators.

I rode with the SETUP's last year (still do) and went down twice with them on. No problems and they are still in farely good condition. Good enough to still feel confident in their protection. Getting a little worn on the ball of my foot but I think that might be all boots. Like to upgrade when I see a good deal come across.

+1 on Sidi, love mine and they're more comfortable than some street shoes I own.
Though I do have narrow feet and high arches, if you've got hobbit feet they might not work as well for ya.
Try on the various brands at the local stores.
Might be able to find a $400 pair on ebay, CSC, MRA, or Craigslist for cheap that someone bought before knowing how the brands fit.

I will tell ya, I like my combat boots a lot. I commute in them a LOT. I also have a pair of SIDIs that I wear in the hills. Good boots as well. My wife has the same ones, she like them too.

I like the combat boots because they have better traction than the SIDIs do. On gravel or wet pavement they work MUCH better. They are comfortable, warm, flexible i nthe right spots, easy to take off and on with the inside zipper (they also lace up the front)

I've got Alpinestars SuperTech boots from Motostrano and love 'em. I lucked out and got them closeout (blue/Euro size 46) for $250. No break-in time at all.
