I want to gear my bike but....

I've heard that if I drop a tooth in the front and don't make changes to the rear sprocket that can give me better torque which is what I'm looking for. The site says that the stock teeth are 16 in the front so if I get a 15 teeth that should help then? I'm still confused with this whole crap (bear with me as everyone gets too technical so I get confused). Here's a few links to sprocket sets, which one would you guys recommend for torque?

    Some links that may help...

    http://www.pit-bull.com/sprocket_ration_chart.pdf

I went from a front/rear sprocket of 17/42, giving me a ratio 2.47 to a front/rear sprocket of 16/44 with a ratio of 2.75. This gave me a noticeable, but not unmanageable acceleration improvement. Keep in mind though, when you make this kind of change, you gain acceleration and lose top speed. No biggie for me, as I was not going to be using the top speed available anyway.

Another thing to consider is that it may affect your displayed speed and miles that rack up on your odometer. My displayed speed reads as much as 15% higher now than what I'm actually doing. This can be corrected by using a speedohealer

    Here's a link to it.

    Good luck and have fun.

My cbr 600rr had a 16 tooth front, and i just put a 14 tooth front on and it really woke up the bike. I did it for drag racing so i get through more gears, and have more torque. It did throw off my speedo a lot, and you will shift a lot more frequently. But i love it, the only thing i dont like is how far off the speedo is off. So i am going to get the speedohealer. My speedo said i was going 68, when my buddys said he was going 55. Like said befor you dont want to rack up false miles on the bike either.

I did the same thing. It really helped my 750 in the corners. I lost a little top end but how often do you need to do above 150 MPH? Have the torque in the corners is more important to me and my riding style.

Plus it makes riding on 1 easier.

Most bikes will not pull redline in top gear with the stock gearing.
Might as well get there faster. I have not really lost any on top with a mild gearing change like a one less front tooth sprocket. Do it, you will be happy.

Yea for sure, I'm doing 1 down and 2 up. I think that should give me the torque to power wheelie and not have to clutch the hell out the bike to bring her up. I rarely go fast either way.
