I have a friend who is a doctor, I don't know if this is true or not but I have to share.
storytime:
I had a student last week who wanted more training with pelvic exams...He hadn't done one to date and he graduates in August. I don't do that many over here so i sent him upstairs to OB for the afternoon. I call the OB and he says sure send him up.
He comes back down two hours later. I ask how did it go he says fine and picks up a chart and starts seeing patients. What i didn't tell him was the nurse upstairs had called me just before he showed up with this story:
He gets there and the Dr. shows him the ropes with the first few patients. He then hands the specula over so to speak but sticks around to talk him through the first one or two until he gets the hang. First patient a 32 year old "hotbody".. nurse says you could just see him turn red hot and melt, she says he starts sweating during the history gathering.
He then gets her in the stir-ups and his hands start to shake. Nurse says She ( the patient)starts to get nervous and irritated at that point and this is not a good combo. Nurse tells me that that the paper gown over her thighs is not cooperating and he starts to futz with it... the more he messes with it the worse it gets and the more nervous he gets. THIS IS WHERE IT GOES WRONG He notices that a little piece of the paper gown has fallen down right smack onto her labia. He goes to pick it off and then hesitates, apparently thinking better of it, pulls back his hand, reaches for it again pulls back and then leans in and blows it off.
The patient bolts off the table and runs bare arse across the room, gets dressed and leaves.
I had the guy for two more days and every female that walked in i told him it was a pelvic and asked if he wanted it...."uhm no, thats ok i'm good"
