While nobody can concretely place her name on a specific list of books... the events DID happen, and it was a public library not a school library. While no books ever got banned, it was in no part because Palin didn't try. She even went as far as trying to get the librarian removed for blocking her efforts.

Do a quick google search for it... Time magazine, NY Times, Boston Herald just to name a few, have articles about it.

Media rumor and innuendo continues to fly around Mrs. Sarah Palin. So, now that facts are finally being straightened out, let's analyze them:

1. Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn't cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding over just three years.

2. [Sarah Palin] did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.

3. She was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States. She's been registered as a Republican since May 1982.

4. Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once wore a Buchanan button as a "courtesty" when he visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.

5. Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska's schools. She has said that students should be allowed to "debate both sides" of the evolution question, but she also said creationism "doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."

Also, please keep in mind that as Governor of Alaska (the state which is our first line of defense from eastern countries), Mrs. Palin receives more detailed national security briefings than Mr. Biden. Having a missle defense shield spread across your state kinda gives you that priority.

I just came back from the Dominican Republic. It was good to see BELOW third world standards. The difference did kick me in the head about just how damn good we have it here.

I just came back from the Dominican Republic. It was good to see BELOW third world standards. The difference did kick me in the head about just how damn good we have it here...

True! I constantly come back to this, but I was with the UN in Africa for 6 months, and that was so humbling. Not just the conditions in Africa, but to talk to the folks from the other countries and what their lives are like. The Bosnians and Croatians were the most humbling, all of those guys had fought in the war. One of the guys told me straight; "I fought so that my children can grow up like you did." Guys who grew up in South Africa and to hear what they have to deal with still becuase of the rampant crime there (Did you know you are not allowed to defend yourself, even against an armed inturder?). The northern Europeans (Swiss, Fins, Norweigins, etc) who couldn't believe I could get a set of tires for my car for less than $400 (I had a lot of car magazines). Then there were the ones who had trained in or traveled to America and still were amazed that you could get food, anytime you wanted it, and that for a mere $.35 you could get even more. And all kinds of food, and almost everywhere.

Don't even get me started on their reaction to my house, and cars and lifestyle. It was almost embarrasing to talk about my middle class status. I am concinced if Americans traveeld more, we'd bitch a lot less.

I agree but given the level of scrutiny that modern politicians have to go through (see anal probes), the out of context attacks, and just general ill will that the other side can generate simply based on what letter is behind their name, I doubt we will see another of his kind.

Outdoorsman, military man, conservationist and someone that truly believed in the idea of America. He's my hero, in a time when heroes are passe. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
