    Paul Newman - RIP

WESTPORT, Conn. - Paul Newman, the Academy-Award winning superstar who personified cool as the anti-hero of such films as "Hud," "Cool Hand Luke" and "The Color of Money" — and as an activist, race car driver and popcorn impresario — has died. He was 83.

    Re: Paul Newman - RIP

I know why I liked the guy and I didn't have to be introduced to the man to understand him as a person. Losing famous people is like losing a part of your childhood.

I went to find some stuff about him and found this quote...

“I'm a supporter of gay rights. And not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I have never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being... by the time I get through with all the things that I really admire about people, what they do with their private parts is probably so low on the list that it is irrelevant.”

It isn't the reason he made that quote, but the sentiment of the quote that makes me admire so many people in my life.

I had read a story about him last month. He had gone to Lime Rock to run one of his race cars, as it turns out, for the last time.

He was a rare celebrity from the entertainment/movie biz that actually had some substance and could be a role model for other people.

    He will definitely be missed.

Drinking some of his coffee as I type this. How ironical....

He did a lot of good work; on screen and off. RIP Paul Newman.

My dad looks like Carol O'conner (e.g. Archy Bunker)

This is sad to hear about. I am really bummed out about hearing about his death.

    Is Robert Redford still around?

My Dad used to work for Nissan/Datrsun back when the SCCA runoffs were held at Road Atlanta. I have a bunch of pictures from when he drove for Nissan. It was not all uncommon to appraoch him and have him start a conversation. He was notitiously approachable, and these stories are littering other gearhead boards I frequent.

Also, bear in mind as one the most attractive dudes in Hollywood for decades, he stayed married to the same woman for 50 years.
GSXRScott made me follow him into that corner,...down that hill...there was the time up that washout...crankcase alley...man I gotta stop following him.

    RIP Fast Eddie Felson...
Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.

Yep and this is what he said about his friend's passing...

He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he's a natural-born world-shaker.
