Dust on ballots slows vote count in Boulder County

BOULDER (AP) - Vote counting in Boulder County is going slowly as bipartisan teams painstakingly check thousands of mail-in ballots for accuracy.

That's making it tough to tell whether state voters passed Amendment 46, an affirmative action ban. It's also stalling a final vote count in the 2nd Congressional District race.
How the hell did dust get on the ballots? Were they saving them in case they needed to push the vote?

I am not sure how this amendment works aside from removing prefferntial treatment to a certain race?

How does this affect you or someone you know?

Well having a Black President does shit all over the notion that affirmative action is still needed.

Out dated preferential treatment for people based on race or sex.

How does it affect me? By removing quotas for positions.

Goodluck with your job hunt. I am with you that it needs to be removed. I am not sure it would've ever... it seemed so PC to leave it there forever.

On the plus side, they're taking the time to make sure every single vote gets counted, even if it means delaying the results and looking silly for a little while. I much prefer that to just saying "fuck it, these ballots are no good" and tossing thousands of legitimate votes.

Delays happen. The process is working as it should.

There is hope for ending affirmative action...I SAID HOPE.

Voters in Nebraska passed a similar measure on Tuesday.

Both measures are backed by Ward Connerly, a former University of California regent who has helped pass similar proposals in California, Michigan and Washington State. Connerly points to Sen. Barack Obama's candidacy as proof that preferences based on race or gender are no longer needed.

The measure says that the state may not discriminate against or grant preferential treatment to individuals or groups based on race, color, sex, ethnicity or national origin.

    Yeah there's some CHANGE

That's why he jacked the plane and is doing his own flying now.

Re: The amendments that we voted on...

DENVER -- A proposed ban on state affirmative action programs in Colorado remained too close to call Wednesday. With 91 percent of the projected vote counted, or about 2 million ballots, "No" votes outnumbered "Yes" by about 14,000. Most votes remaining to be counted were in suburban Adams County, where the race was about even, and in Boulder County, which was trending against the measure. An estimated 20,000 provisional ballots also were cast statewide on Amendment 46. It's possible they could determine the amendment's fate.

Yes it sucks. And I can't complain either without sounding like I like my race and don't like discrimination in any form. Except hippies.
