    Cool Honda Video

We fans of Honda V-4 bikes have long been wishing for Honda to return to their senses and start making kick-ass V-4 sportbikes again. For the longest time, it's just been us fans who have been doing the talking. But lately the mothership herself has been starting to chatter about the V-4. Here is a cool video that has us wondering if Honda has something in the works:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRYri4awBNg

Have they finally beaten the bean counters over the head enough to make them realize that Honda can be just like everyone else and stamp out I-4s or they can re-engage the innovative spirit that Soichiro radiated and make sportbikes that stand out from the crowd? You know, like the early 80's when they introduced sportbikes with such goodies as slipper clutches, radial tires, gear driven cams, liquid cooled engines. Maybe...

    Attributed to Honda:

"The exciting news of the V4 production model is the result of overwhelming response from customers, media and motorcycle dealers across Europe following the debut of the V4 Concept Model at last month's Intermot show, where the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer chose 'New Beginnings' as its theme to celebrate Honda's 60th anniversary as a company, 50th anniversary of racing and 30th anniversary of the Honda's iconic V4 engine configuration.

"Building on this theme at this week's Milan Show, Honda highlighted the next stage of the V4 story and looked forward to the next 60 years of motorcycle production, with V4 technology forming a part of the marque's future direction in the coming few years, starting in just 18 months time with the introduction of the first V4 mass-production model in the first half of 2010."

V-4, 200 hp, keep the weight sub 430 ready-to-ride, and even if it's $16k, they have a sellout on their hands. Oh yeah, fuel injection, but no VTEC or other useless gizmos that increase complexity without increasing performance.

Real VTEC (not what the VFR has) could be useful on a streetbike. But for a supersport, yeah give me a flat torque curve, gear driven cams, light weight and plenty of power. I really think the V-4 would shine in a 600cc supersport.

    Pneumatic valves might be cool...
