I really like Sony and Samsung stuff, but neither of those two, have a built-in DVD player, so that's kinda of a disqualifier. =\

That's cool! I would love to do my hobby for a living...Hopefully I can hire him to come do my stuff..

Hopefully he can give us a higher, more educated opinion on this stuff. Mine is purely research based, not career oriented.

Doesn't your computer have a DVD drive?

Plus, you don't want to do the built-in thing.. Just one more thing to break..

If you're really set on it, then look at the Westinghouse sets...

It does; 2 of them in-fact. I just would rather have a built-in player though, so I don't have to run the PC everytime we want to throw in a DVD. Plus, for things like all the normal Play/Pause/Stop/FF/RW/Volume controls, I don't want to have to operate the mouse.

Plus, if I'm burning disks or doing other media related computing, I can still do my thing while we're watching the next RedBox.

I'm taking a peak at the Westinghouse SK-32H590D, as we speak.

I still think you should get an LCD without a DVD player.. Spend 80 bucks on a decent upconverting standalone player...

Ps. That Westy is nice, and probably dead on for your requirements.

So Barn, did you make a decision? Personally, I'm trying to justify buying 42" LCD for the bedroom.

No, not yet. I keep needing to remind myself that I'm not in a big hurry to buy something. I'm really trying to find a world-beater deal out there, and then do it.

I'm also kinda wondering if all that "After Christmas" chatter is really worth waiting for. I might just get something then, if prices are expected to be all kinds of rock-bottom.

You were probably seeing the AutoMotionPlus or AMP feature that a lot of the Samsung models have. It interpolates a frame between normal frames in hopes of smoothing the picture. In reality, it just makes movies look like soap operas.. It's great for sports..

120hz is what is going to get rid of ghosting and trails in new LCD tech. Not something you'll notice for the most part, or change the overall viewing.

Hey now, let's be for clipping ALL the ends of those wire ties.

Back in the day, these were the kind of systems I would install. We'd build the entire room for acoustics, furniture, walls, floors, ceilings, and then drop in the AV. Automated letterbox screen masking systems, backlit movie posters, the works. Of course, getting the monkey to play the piano was always a chore.

    Stuff kinda like this:

This was common stuff in 3-5 million dollar homes. One place even was designed to have the multi-level seating disappear into the walls to open the place up for a stage and dance floor. Never mind the guy in HR that had a sunken jacuzzi and stripper pole in his basement.

Biggest theater I ever built was for 25 seats. F'n rich people, ha. The guy had his own indoor racquetball court for god's sake.
