Im all for free choice but I have also been of the fence about a helmet law. There are pros and cons to both ways like with anything. One of the big pros for it is it will lower deaths and make overall riders safer IMO leading to lower insurace cause of lower risks in turn saving everybody money. But I not going to get to into detail about this cause the pros and cons go back and forth for awhile. But someone said something about not likely to live in a high speed wreck even with a helmet. This was post before. http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2008/Oct/091016arai.htm

    What you are saying is..

Translated.. I want to be able to do even more dangerous stuff as long as I wear a helmet. This is what young riders have been saying all along. Your reason is not for safety, it is for being more dangerous to yourself and to cagers. I don't think it will ever fly.

I believe, if the government force all motorcycle riders to NOT wear a helmet, we may have riders that are more cautious and ride slower. A person not wearing a helmet is very aware that even the slightest mistake could cause head trama. They are generally more cautious. What I see on this board is riders who say, well if I wear race leathers with pads and a good helmet, this will allow me to ride faster and take greater risk and break more laws. Now you are saying, because we are forced to wear helmets for safety, it should allow us to drive in even a more unsafe manner. I get pissed if another rider passing me in the opposite wheel track because it puts us both in danger, you want to ride even closer to cagers. This is stupid reasoning to me. If you are truly interested in protecting people from themselves then lane splitting is not safe either and will never pass. But many are trying to force legislation to take away another freedom of choice

People who don't wear helmets do not cause a safety issue for others. Lane splitting breaks current laws and puts riders and cagers in danger because it is already difficult for them to see us, putting us in between makes it even more difficult for them to see us.

Has manditory seatbelts lowered your insurance? No. In fact it is a great revenue generator for the state and the city. They make a ton of money because they can pull people over and give them tickets.

Has airbags made driving safer? No in fact it has injured many even with lower presure bags. The idea of a soft pillow that comes out is a good idea, but that is not what happens, it is an explosion the hurts and even injures people. Auto manufacturers would NEVER put airbags in a car because of the liability, only the government can injure you without you being able to hold them accountable. If airbags were so safe, nascar and other car racing organizations would mandate them.

Airbags increase the cost of your car. If they deploy in a minor fender bender, the cost to repair your car goes up. You think this costs you less money, has it cause our insurance to go down? No, I would guess it caused it to go up because insurance companies have to pay to have the airbags replace in an accident.

No restrictive laws we create will ever lower the cost of insurance. They used this same argument when they stated that we would make insurance manditory, I have yet to see my insurance go down. Your argument it saves money is not a good one.

Hey guys this is my first post here, I'll introduce myself later. I just found out that the passenger on the bike in the accident was my friends mother. He's a student up at CSU and they were very close. I'll pass along the sympathy and kind words. I know he'll appreciate it since he rides too.

To force not wearing helmets would in no way make riders safer. No matter how cautious you are you still have no control over what a cager is doing(watch the chip I post they explain and show a helmet from someone that the cager hit them) simple as that. Also most people I have road with that dont where helmets dont ride cautious in anyway they do it cause they look cooler without a helmet and dont think the risks are big enough for them to need one. Agian thats most the ride without helmets no all.

Who know what insurance has done it may not get you insurce to go pre-say but it could have kept it from going up. Who knows I dont work for insurance place but there is always that chance.

^^ Because requiring seatbelt usage did not lower rates. Requiring child saftey seats did not lower rates. Tough DWI laws did not lower insurance rates. NOTHING you put into law will lower rates. If a device was created that made it impossible to get into an auto accident, the rates would not go down. Insurance is compulsory AND the companies providing it work in a capitalist economy. There is NO reason to lower rates if people will continue to pay the current or higher ones.

Re: crash yesterday at 85/87 exit and academy offramp

Like I said who knows my rates will go down if I take an mfs. Insurace is all about numbers is the time setbelts and air bags came around there were more people getting on the road which ups the risk and while those things lowered it the didn't change the cost cause the risk factor didn't change. So for all anyone knows it could have lowered rates or kept them from going up saving you money. But didn't see a change cause your rates didn't go up. More people on the roads equals more risks even if things are
