    Taxes????

Okay, I'm about to buy a 07 suzuki (cash) and I'm trying to figure out how not to get raped at the DMV. I want to register and get tags for my bike, but I refuse to go in there and spend another thousand dollars on tags.

I'm wondering if they charge state, County and RTD taxes off of the blue book value or do they charge these taxes off of what I paid for the bike? I know for motorcycles it's different than with cars....but I'm not sure how different. I mean..if I bought a 07 that was a POS for 500 dollars and fixed it up...would my taxes still be based off of the 07 blue book price of the bike or...just what I paid?

Anyone have any accurate info on this please share. Thanks in advance guys.
The cheapest mod that you can make to increase HP on two wheels is to remove the weight from the equation. In other words, put the spoon down once in a while and loose some fat off ur a*s ..lol.

    Re: Taxes????

The sales tax is based on the purchase price and the property tax is based on the original tax value and the age of the vehicle. The original tax value is a percentage of the original MSRP. Like 80%... Here is the Jeffco tax rate for cars. This is nothing you can do about the property tax.

But with the sales tax you can have the seller not fill in the purchase price on the bill of sale. A dealer will not do this because that is tax fraud, but private parties usually do not think about that. Then put a reasonable amount on the bill of sale and that will drop your sales tax.

+1 my chopper that I paid a lot for (over 30k) had 1500 written in the sale price box. The lady didn't even ask, they have no idea what a used bike is worth, they just go on it and move along to the next person in line and watch the clock for lunch.

    From website:

    http://www.co.adams.co.us/index.cfm?...=9&s=21&p=1027

    Vehicle Purchased by Cash
When a vehicle is a cash purchase from either a dealer or a private individual you must bring the title and any applicable documents properly assigned to you and proof of emissions. As of July 1, 1999 proof of Valid Vehicle Insurance is also required.
If you have a set of license plates you want to reissue to your newly purchased vehicle, bring the registration for those plates.

If the dude you are buying it from is cool..just see if he will write a lower amount in for the sale price..Also, skip the emissions part of the text, don't need em for bikes.

I see your concern of going off the actual price of the bike but I don't think you will have to worry about it there.
