French video of Meoni
Kinda crazy the Meoni and Sainct died within 4 months of each other.
RIP
Meoni is the 42nd person to die on the Dakar since the event began in 1979. Ten of these have been motorcyclists who have fallen or been hit by cars. The total includes spectators (13), journalists (6), support crews and, of course, the original rally organizer Thierry Sabine, who was killed in a helicopter accident in 1986. One truck driver in 1991 was shot by unknown assassins, another was killed by a landmine in 1995.
Those are some scary statistics... killed by unknown assassins? holy crap

Nope, but Alfie Cox gets interviewed and he's speaking english. There's footage of the KTM riders getting the news after the stage and of the crash scene. Also, there's a lot of footage of Meoni riding 2-track like it was pavement... the dude was incredible.
Nothing like dodging a land mine or two to make the event a little more exciting...
Sorry that these guys perished, it sounds like they were masters in their field.
Although I am not an off-road rider (yet). I have been facinated by the Dakar for years. One of my goals was to get the chance to cover it someday for media. Richard Sainct was one individual I really wanted to meet and so was Fabrizio. This is like losing Rossi and Nicky Hayden in the same year for the fans and family of the Dakar.
KTM has requested their teams pull out and is in fact analyzing their futire participation at this stage. http://www.vonconcepts.com/press/Dea...KTM.011105.doc
It was Fabrizio's birthday as he left for Dakar. Please pray for his family and friends, while remembering that he passed away doing what he loved.
