Re: Who here has dropped a bike???

My Brother dropped my FZ6 (which is now his) when we was moving it in the garage. It broke the windshield off, shattered the right head light lens, and cracked the fairing. Luckily the break was east fixed, and he bought me a Puig Racing Double Bubble screen. After I sold him the bike, he tipped it over on a dirt driveway at his friends house. It scratch the fairing, frame, and rear tear drop fairing. This time, we just replaced the front faring and painted the frame. He also, dropped his Ninja 250 when he had it, he stalled it in our driveway and had to lay it on its side lol.

I have only dropped my 1984 Kawi enduro, and my Dad's 1990 Yamaha TW200, thank god. Dirt bikes take drops a little better.

I dropped my yzf600r several times. Usually trying to back it out of a parking spot. And of course all but once in front of several people. Was just too big and bulky for me to maneuver thus the reason I sold it.

I dropped my old KZ650 (first bike) twice. Totally humiliating experience, but a learning experience.

Re: Who here has dropped a bike???

    1. Old Honda 360T back in 77 or so. Asphalt hot and the kickstand sank into it.

    2. Guy in a pickup pulled out from the right and stopped sideways in the left lane and I ran into the side of the truck. This was around 1989.

    3. Backing the Harley FLSTCI out of the garage and couldn't quite make it past Rita's car. Dropped it down hill. I immediately lifted it back up.

    4. After riding for 12 hours in sub-32* temps and being bone tired, I dropped the Harley at a Motel, breaking the last inch or two off of the clutch lever.

    5. I had the 'busa up on rear stands while cleaning it. I put the hump on the bike and took it off the stands, then realized I had forgot to put the kickstand down.

    6. I had the 'busa up on rear stands in the garage. I put the hump on and took it off the stands and again, realized I'd forgotten to put the kickstand down (now I don't put the hump on until after it's back on the ground).

    7. While riding down a dirt road, I caught the dirt wrong and put the 'busa on her side.

    8. I was going to Thorton last year on the SV. It had snowed and the gas station parking lot was covered in packed snow. I navigated through that without a problem. Once I got on the clear concrete though, it threw me off the back. Frame sliders prevented any damage.

Re: Who here has dropped a bike???

Last time I dropped a bike on the street was late summer of 1987, lowsiding in a corner that I had been through a thousand times. Looking at the scrapes in the asphalt, it looked like the front wheel went over a small metal cover (like a water valve cover, probably 6" in diameter) and lost grip at a pretty good lean angle.

When I first started riding I did the "oh shit I'm going too fast for this turn so I'd better stand it up and brake" routine before I figured out that "maybe I can lean a little more" was a better approach.

To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property, and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Laid my R1 down Feb 20, 2007....cold tires (was running race take-offs), took a corner too fast and had a run in with the demonic cross walk tape strip.

Thankfully that has been my only incident thus far.

Re: Who here has dropped a bike???

    mehhhh... it happens...

first drop was in a riding class. slow speed front brake only emergency stop and before I knew it the bike was on it's side... oops here a 250 dollar mistake

the other one was pushing my Sprint back into my garage after washing it. Gravity got the better and over it went with me on top. Unfortunately, it hit the rock wall outside my garage and took a chunk out of the pillion plastics, then friction let go and the bike slid down the wall and scraped the crap out of the right fairing... this one involved a lot of cussing and 500 dollars to repair and repaint.

Like Cathy said... it happens, oh well.

Re: Who here has dropped a bike???

Many a dirt bike...but I haven't ridden on dirt in quite a few years. When I was putting tires on my first streetbike, a CB750, it fell off the stand, onto me...doesn't everyone want a bike in their lap, luckily no damage, me or the bike, occurred.

So far I have been lucky with the triumph...knock on wood...

I haven't dropped mine entirely of my own accord...yet, but I came close the other day. I was trying to back it out of the storage unit when my foot hit the sand that I KNEW was there and slipped. I started to fall to the left but thankfully was able to catch myself against the wall before the bike ate it.

    Define "dropped"

Do you mean crashed, tipped over, or released from a predetermined height above the ground?
