    back protector?

So I need to get a back protector and need to know what is the difference between CE, CE level 2, RC and bionic... And what is track approved? I am getting an alpinestar suit and is the foam one in the back exceptiable?
And last what is a good one to go with?

    Re: back protector?

Chad, to my knowledge, the foam one is not acceptable and would not be approved by tracks. I don't know the difference between the others, sorry. I have a teknic, it's okay, but I would look for one that goes around the armpit instead of just around the waist. Nothing wrong with it, just more comfy. Hope this helps?

never took anything out. I like padding. It feels better when you fall down. But I have a speed hump, so I didn't even try. Mine is not an educated answer, just what I did.

Lots of info in this thread. Not sure if that's as much as you really wanted though.

I think you need a hard shell BP for the track. But it's your spine so buy the best you can afford.

    Interesting Tube Vid:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC-INgZC8j8

I have a SixSixOne hard shell. However I am a midget so had to shop in the lil kids section.

But after seeing that vid, I would have shopped around for a more full coverage one I think. I don't care about brand personally, but the vid made some sense to me in terms of organs, adjustments and coverage.

Most of CE cert. ones won't fit in a jacket pocket.

The foam back protector will work for track approval however dont know about MRA (of course this applies to tracks in CO)....however they don't provide much protection

I highly recommend you pick up a hard shelled (plastic of otherwise) back protector. Alpinestars, knox, bohn etc all make a quality product

Another point is they are not one size fits all. make sure whatever you decided to buy is long enough to cover your spine. As you probably know your back does not have much padding to protect your spine if you are sliding along the ground at 100mph.

For what it is worth I use the alpinestars

    Chad,

I bring a couple extra basic back protectors with hard armor on them with me to the trackdays. You're welcome to borrow one if you want.

thanks Scott,, I am more interested in buying one at this point. I want to do more trackday and find that when I own something it is much easier to get use to it. Thanks again for the offer

I just said most don't fit in the jacket's back pocket.
Don't doubt the some are sold in more than 1 size but most of what I've seen are OSFA.

And I was listening in class..............just no to you.

    enough lurking for me...

I've been looking for a back protector as well...and after seeing the options online...and going off what people say, I'm leaning towards the A* unit...

Are there any local-ish places that have them is stock to try on? I could just go off the size chart...but would kinda prefer to try one on to make sure if fits right

    Re: back protector?

I picked up my hard shell SixSixOne at Performance. I'm sure they have other brands. Don't know.
Mine is a small but I still have to wiggle it down into my leather pants, so it doesn't hit me in the neck.
