    Insurance

I'm looking into buying a newer/bigger bike. I currently have an old 250, insurance isn't so bad on it. I'm hoping I can get some ideas on what to expect, what is reasonable for an 04 or newer GSXR600 or similar? I have only been riding for a year. Is there one insurance company that you have found to be more reasonable than others? I have heard that some will do a reduced rate over the winter if you don't ride between certain months?

Any help, wisdom you can give me would be awesome

    Age? Driving Record?

    I'm 31, state farm, some small tickets but nothing major. I pay $8 dollars a month on a 09-250, $15 on a 07-R6, and a woping $18 on a 06 ZX10R. Full coverage and $500 deductable

    Adam Moskowitz FTW!

    Re: Insurance

While the bike does play a role into what you'll pay, I think the more important factor is your age, and your driving record (car and bike).

I'm 23 and to get any sportbike newer than a 2000, I would have been paying at least $1000 per year. But, I do not skimp on insurance and get full coverage (don't have collision on my 94 or 86 bikes right now though). If you want to save money, don't get collision as that really jacks up the rates quickly.

To get a better idea, you should have people post up their age, driving record (just how many tickets or something like that), who they are insured by, coverage, bike, and how much.

23, Spotless record minus a speeding ticket 9 years ago, Progressive, Full (250/500/no collision), 1994 Yamaha XJ600s (600cc sport tourer) and 1986 Yamaha FZ600s (600cc sportbike), $186 per year.

State Farm does check. I've had them for ten years and I know that they do. When I used to get tickets, they would contact me and let me know my rates are going up or they'd let me know the tickets came off and my rates are going down. That was years ago, though. I finally learned that speeding is expensive!!

Anyway, we pay $12/month for full coverage on each of our bikes through State Farm. 39 and 41 with clean records...

    Re: Insurance

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. I'm 29, I've got a clean record for bikes and cars. I was getting a little worried because I did some internet quotes and they were outrageous. I did not check with State Farm though. Will definitley do that

    Re: Insurance

Driving record, age, and multiple vehicle coverage play a part in it - I also have State Farm. Deductible is either $100 or $250, pay $12.73 per month. I have two cars and one motorcycle insured. Just from reading several of the CSC posts many of the members have State Farm - that says a lot.

Are you saying $12 for the three!?!? If so, I should be getting a better deal. We've had State Farm for ten years. House, boat, RV, two trucks, and four motorcycles. We're also old (sort of) and married and have clean records. Maybe I should call DK's guy! We did get a 20% discount on the house when we installed an alarm. That was cool...

State Farm, no collision coverage (bikes are too old to worry about it at this point). I'm 47 and get tickets on occasion.

    2002 954 - $8 / month

    Re: Insurance

I guess you need to compare the actual policies to get a real idea on what's a good deal. I thought some peeps on here were getting better deals, but after checking our policy, we have it loaded. Higher coverage than standard, medical coverage, and all that other good stuff.

Turns out we have a screamin' deal!!

Now if I can just get someone to steal my boat!!
