Lithium, it's not just for breakfast anymore ...

    http://blog.wired.com/cars/2009/04/24-hours-of-ele.html

The link above says cars but don't puke. It's actually another righteous write-up on electric dirt bikes complete w/video.

"The Zero X is an EV you can buy right now for $7,450. It weighs in at a bantamweight 150 pounds, delivers as much as 40 miles on a charge from a lithium-ion battery, and with a 23-horsepower motor it'll hit 57 mph (and throw up a big spray of dirt getting there). Sakai says it offers the same power as a 250-cc gasoline powered bike, and with 50 foot-pounds of torque it'll smoke the tires on pavement."

I think if they took more of a motard style approach, a nice quite electric bike would work well on the back streets and suburbs. I know I would much prefer something like this to a pocket bike or a moped.

I would consider one if it was a quarter of the price.

This is what you get for $1800 (approx. a 1/4 of the price):

I dunno, but I think the $7600 price tag is not too unreasonable considering the asking price for this 1975 Harely:

Of course you could get this Aprilla sxv 550 motard for $7250:

...but I still like the idea of a nice quiet electric motard style bike instead of a scooter for running around the neighborhood. Sometimes you've got to run across town and open up the concession stand, or go pick someone up after practice and ride them home, or go grab a new part that just came in, and firing up a GL1500 Honda Goldwing just seems like over kill. With something like this, you could just hop on it and be gone, lay it up against the concession stand or park it in the bike rack and literally park it anywhere, and no one would care, then run your errands and be off again to the next stop. If you've got an acess road or a dead end street that you live on, the neighbors won't be able to complain about the noise either. I think an electric motard would be very cool.

Well your right it would be cool for short trips and such, I just can't see myself paying that much for it, I would rather have that aprilla with the street tires.
