    Question Knee Doctor Recommendations?

Given that a lot of people on here race or do other riding/sports that can cause knee injuries... anyone have a good experience with a knee specialist that had them do some kind of proceedure? I would prefer in the South Metro or Denver area. I don't have any doctor that I go to regularly and have given my knee a couple years to heal but something is obviously torn or otherwise F%#$ed.

Dr. Wintery is a phenominal orthopedic surgeon, but he's up north.

that will def help... there are docs that specialize in different things inside the knee.... FWIW i would look up some docs that work on the pro sports people, i had a guy here in the springs do mine up right after visiting a quack for 3 months, but the guy who fixed me up was on the olympic teams short list for ACL reconstructions.

The sports med guys tend to know these types of injuries a lot (Provided its a ligament issue) since they seem 'em all the time. My guy is great, but he's also back in Ohio. If you know anyone in the med field personally, ask 'em where they'd send their son or daughter. I was at subway talking to a guy in line who turned out to be a plastic surgeon at one of the best hospitals in town & he said he'd recommend a certain guy b/c that's where he sends all his patients, himself included. Proved to be a very good choice of lunch venue for me

    Two words for ya,
Cornerstone Orthopedics, they are a little further north but worth it. Did my wife's shoulder and it is better than new. Have worked on a few of my pro athlete friends knees. HIgh profile client list, NFL, rockies, NBA etc. Dr. Hsin is a world class surgeon. Check out the website, or call Impact Sports Performance in Broomfield for a reference. Crush, Rockies, Nuggets, Rapids and US Rugby frequently workout there and use Cornerstone for some of their players.

Disclosure: my wife is Dr. Hsin MA but we do not recieve refferal fees or anything, just dont want people to think I benefit from sending anybody there.

Something is very wrong with both of my knees too. But no idea what it is, as I have no known injuries. The last two months really make me wonder what the heck is up?
Do you guys think it's best to just get an xray from the family doc before proceding to the pro's (in my case)?

Wintery and Chris Issacs used to be partners. Don't know if they still are. Wintery treated me for my collar bone, but I had Issacs do the surgery because he's done four ACL replacements for Kim.

Kim might be in-line for #5. One of her knees has been giving out after a dirt bike crash.

Dr. White w/ Western Ortho is awesome! The dude called me at 9pm when he finished looking at the MRI I had done on my knee. I have never had a doc do that before, plus he knows his stuff.

Hoo-ya for Cornerstone! They are the ones that I dealt with for most of my stuff and they are phenomenal! I've worked in the ER with Hsin and he is such a nice guy! My doc was Mann and he was great as well! I sure as heck wish I'd gone back to them after my incident last summer. I wanted to stick local, but will not be repeating that mistake!
EDIT: (I've worked with almost all of the Cornerstone guys in the ERs and they were everybody's favorite group to have on call. They are just stand up people and wonderful with the patients. Obviously if the ERs want you on call, your medicine is good too! =)

I've also heard great things about the Steadman Hawkins guys, but I've also heard that if you are gonna bother going to them, to just do it right and go to the Vail office.

In essence...if you want "local" go with Cornerstone. If you don't mind traveling, go with the Vail Steadman Hawkins office.

(Both groups have a number of docs that specialize in different things, so you can always find a good doc for most problems.)

    Re: Knee Doctor Recommendations?

Dr. David Schneider or Joe Hsin at Cornerstone Orthopedics in Louisville, these guys are the best. Schneider did my knee about 4 yrs ago, and Joe has taken care of me since he came to Louisville. Both have great bedside manners and are on the level with you. Tell you straight up if surgery is really what you need, they waited 8-9 months before they did my surgery cause they wanted my knee to see if it could heal up, when it didn't we went to surgery and I have been fine since.

As an xray tech I have worked with both of them in the OR and can tell you these guys are great, I won't have another Orthopod touch me as long as these guys are around.

dont waste your time/money with PC docs.

I landed straight-legged when I jumped playing basketball and the knee joint hyperextended and also sort of crunched like two bones making contact. Now it acts like it is going to give out and does kind of pop out of place when I have weight on it and just hurts like a bitch most of the time.
Thanks for the recommendations. I am hoping to find someone that people recommend that is in my work insurance list.

When you landed, did the knee pop left or right, or did it go front to back, or did you just land straight on it & it just made a crunch?

    Re: Knee Doctor Recommendations?

It was a couple years ago but if I remember correctly it did not go to one side or the other. Pretty much straight on... with a little bit of ow shit! I think it just made the attempt to bend backwards which was a big part of the issue.

Check your insurance for any of these guys! I've worked with the first four listed and would have no hesitation in referring any of my friends/family to any of them and like I said before, my mess called knees.

As for your complaint and description of what happened....could still be any number of problems both bony and soft tissue. With the knee wanting to "give out," there's a strong chance of soft tissue involvement, but with your description of the incident and the bony sound, you could just as easily have both. You could also have something called a tibial plateau fracture which can be deceptive little buggers. Trust me on that one - that's the break I had last summer.

Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your thread Inline. Just figured it was the best place to ask.

Dr Greenberg fixed up my achilles tendon a couple years ago. Great doc, great sense of humor and has been doing ortho a long time.
