    Cool F4i Maintenance questions

So I'm looking into picking up an 02 F4i with 17k miles on it. My questions are.... A bike with that many miles should've had what maintenance done? Such as shocks, valves, etc... What's coming up as far as maintenance as well? Any pointers on what to look at? Thanks,

    Good question:

    What SHOULD have been done?

Well, valve adjustment interval on that bike is 16K miles, so:

    16K Service

    Inspect / Adjust Valve Clearances
    Oil Change
    Brake fluid change
    adjust head tube bearings
    inspect brake pads
    inspect tire condition
    check wheel bearings
    check swingarm bearings

possibly would need a chain and sprockets around that mileage as well.

Also, in my opinion, at some point in the bikes history the fork oil should have been changed.

Modern bikes are great, and 17K miles is really nothing if the bike has been taken care of. There will be evidence that this has happened. Upkeep with fluid changes, evidence of routine washing etc.

As for KNOWING if the service has been done, ask for records.

    Best of luck!

Scott got about the whole gamut.

I would also check for loose nuts/bolts and check for cable/line wear on rubbing points.
