There are studies on how to best set the speed limit (read: safest speed limit) of a road and that is clearly not what is done. I have pointed out before that the speed limit in front of the Wal Mart on 287 in Lafayette is 55-60 (depending on which way you're going) and yet the speed limit on the south end of 36 is also 55 (and it's also crawling with cops). That's just stupid and has nothing to do with public safety.
