Thumbs down Ohio trooper gets nailed

I work with cops all of the time and there is almost an expectation of "professional courtesy" amongst emergency personnel. I understand why it is there and take no issue with it in some circumstances. (I've been lucky enough to get out of some situations due to it as well.)

However...THIS article is just insane to me! The hypocrasy that this whole thing is laced with is unreal. I can't believe that the judge isn't throwing the book at him right out of the shoots. It is unbelieveable that OSP transferred the moron to TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT - let alone allows him to continue driving state vehicles. Yes, I know that he hasn't been found guilty yet, but what about paid leave pending the results of the trial? Or office duties? Both of these cops exhibited an extreme lack of good judgement and there is so much to this story that concerns me. Interesting story regardless of the varied opinions for sure!

Also interesting to me is the fact that the cop says he is looking for no leniency, yet changed his plea when he found out that he might get his license revoked. He admits he is guilty, but is pleading not guilty. ugh!
Oh and I just read elsewhere that the faster cop is supposedly on disability for a back injury from last year after slipping on ice while on duty and injuring his back. Nice.

I wanna know what the OSP has that will GO 149 mph? Aircraft, maybe?

I'm curious if this is a laser ticket, where the clocking officer radioed ahead, or what.....

Both cops were on personal bikes... '08 Kawis, but no specification beyond that. And the article states that they got nailed by plane which radioed ahead to the ticketing officer.

An interesting update (at least to me...lol):

Funny how things change after the media gets ahold of them. Initially the ticketing officer was praised for his actions.

But Post Commander Lt. L.H. Roseboro told the OIG's Office that he "didn't like to second guess his guys" and gave a noncommital response to whether the extreme speeds that Highsmith and Thomas posted were deserving of an officer's discretion.
Yeah, ~150 mph by officers isn't a public safety concern but they'll cite that bullshit while tagging citizens for going 7 over all day long. I wonder if their bikes were impounded?

The laws of necessity, of self- preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property, and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Hmm, I got a $170 doller ticket for 20-over (74) and these guys don't get arrested? Jeff had to do a day in jail for his 20-over? Guess it IS who you know....

WOW! That sucks but it's not bad for 20 over. I got fined $400.00 for 21 over on my last ticket. Of course that was in Aurora. That was the ticket that finally slowed my ass down. Oh yeah, it wasn't on my bike either.

This part of the article is a trip. Interesting clause. I wonder what brought it about.

Days lapsed as the situation was relayed from one senior patrol leader to another.

Charles said time was wasted with indecision and Combest's overconcern for language in the union contract that prevents troopers or sergeants from being ordered to make arrests.

"They shouldn't have even worried about that," he said.
