Where are these bikes getting stolen from!?!?

I'm gettin quite concerned with all the recent motorcycles being reported stolen. Where about in town are they being stolen from? Are these bikes exposed outdoor in apartment complex parking lots or what?

    Just curious....

I would bet an apartment complex parking lot. Someone sees your bike... watches it and you for a few days or so and blamo - GONE! As far as location, some were in Aurora and Littleton.. but it can happen anywhere that your bike isn't locked down with a kryptonite chain, lojack or in a garage (can even happen there too)

Seems like a fairly normal number of stolen bikes this year. Apartments are hotbeds for car break-ins and stolen bikes.

All it will take for this "group" is to grab the wrong bike (read: LOJACKED) and maybe we can get some of them back!

I learned the hard way a few years ago....

The lesson learned is if you don't have a garage don't get a bike or you will be flirting with disaster.

They will still steal from garages.

Some retarded ass hat actually glued the cover shut on out external garage door keypad this weekend.

I am waiting for them to come back.

Unless you live in Boulder. Three years and zero problems parking it outside in an apt complex. It also could have to do with the fact that I have a bike that no one would want to steal.

Haha. These are all good points. I know I take the proper precautions, but evidently there must be a lot of others that do not.

Plus the tree huggers in Boulder probably think motorcycles cause too much pollution and would rather walk or ride their bicycles.

Re: Where are these bikes getting stolen from!?!?

There is a very comprehensive article in the current issue of Roadracing World on this very subject. Basicly it says if they want your bike they will get it, but the easy ones are usually the ones to get nicked.
The artical centered on the San Diego area and the close proxcimety sp
    to Mexico.
Most thefts take less than 30 seconds to ride your locked bike away.
Sobering reality, even the ones with Lojack.

Yup, doesn't matter what you do if there's a will there's a way. I had mine kryptonite locked and parked in, but they still found a way to lift it over all the cars in the way. I'm thinking flame jet security system next time.

Re: Where are these bikes getting stolen from!?!?

I have mine attempted stolen and stolen in lakewood at the alexan belmar parking lot. And I know of at least 3 other theft in lakewood. Seems to be a real bad spot (specially around the middle-higher class apartments, condos and lofts) or whatever you wanna call an apartment.

Mines locked up: chains, garaged, boobytrapped, lojacked and insured to the HILT but I live near colfax so anything can happen!! If all else fails, I have a freshly cleaned and armed 9mm not too far away from where I sleep.

People don't steal from the ghetto.. duh! (unless it's drugs) ! They would get a cap busted in their ass if they did ! It's not as likely in the yuppie hoods...

I highly doubt it. Most of em are probably torn down, or shipped off to mexico by now. There's a very short window for bike retrieval before it's pretty much gone for good.

Just keep it in a garage. MOST thieves dont want to do all that work for a bike.

Well, I would venture a guess that if someone has the gusto to snatch a bike out of your garage, they are either someone you know or a neighbor.

I have had my bike under my apartment carport and it's still here, even after 2 years. I crank the wheel and lock the steering into place. Is that really a factor or have I just been lucky so far and need to get a storage unit?
