If you use brake cleaner, read this!

One drop of it plus some heat was enough to almost kill this guy. Heads up since we all have this chemical in our shops and garages.

That is some crazy stuff. I use carb cleaner or brake cleaner to keep the wasps from building nests in my garage. Even use a lighter sometimes.

Note: This mostly applies to chlorinated brake cleaner (the non-flammable kind). Non-chlorinated brake cleaner is mostly methanol and isoheptane, so it's flammable to the point of being explosive, but not really any more dangerous from the standpoint of heat decomposition than, say, paint thinner. We have not used chlorinated brake cleaner in our shop for a very long time because if the waste oil gets contaminated with it, the oil becomes hazmat, and it's HUGE money to get someone to haul it off. As it is, we pay an average of $.90 a gallon to get rid of the waste oil.

This guy is not like me. He has all those symptoms and doesn't go to the Dr. for 9 DAYS??? Not that it would have helped, from what he says, but I would have been in there the same day. Of course, my Dr. is hot.

I will have to remember to not heat brake cleaner with Argon in the area unless I want to make Phosgene

I rarely think of motorcycles without a little yearning. They are about moving, and humans, I think, yearn to move – it’s in our cells, in our desires. We quiet our babies with cyclic movement, and we quiet ourselves by going.

I went and bought some the other day, and made sure to get the "Flammable" (Non-chlorinated) kind. IMO, The warnings on the "Non-Flammable" (Chlorinated) kind are nowhere near big and bold enough. Not even close. This stuff can and will kill you, and if not, there will be permanent damage. What is one of the things I use it for? I spray me headers with it after I spill oil all over them after removing the oil filter. Good thing I know which kind to get.......

did not know this either. Especially being a TIG welder and using it to clean certain parts time to time when acetone is not on hand.

A total non-issue these days. Chlorinated brake cleaner has not been available for sale for at least 5 years.
