    07 GSXR750 - A Rebuild Experience

One thing I always find interesting is how, or more importantly why, people modify their bikes the way they do. To that end here is the readers digest version of my bike build and why I did it.

Bike is a 07 GSXR 750 that I bought new in 06 after selling my 636. I loved this bike the moment I saw it and all the reviews from that year only confirmed what I already new. In OK the roads pretty much suck so after the first 2000 miles, about 3 months, it was on the track. Also like any good squid I had to start replacing parts that didnt matter. The mud flap was gone as soon as it hit the drive way and the slip-on exhaust within the first few weeks.
The summer of 07 we moved to CO and I fell into lust with the roads. The odometer quickly hit 9K through the winter and into 08. As 08 started the track riding continued and I was also riding in the canyons faster as my skills started to improve.
Fast forward to the fall of 08 and the inevitable happened. A combination of old tires (5 track days + street), a cold morning, and a rider being a little lazy in a corner. The rear stepped way out and a nasty highside was a result. The bike was trashed from a cosmetic standpoint. Their wasnt a single peice of plastic that didnt get torn up and as you can imagine the insurance company totaled it. Other then plastic their was nothing wrong with the bike and since I had a set of track plastics already it made sense to buy it back. Plus I knew that if I got rid of it my wife was going to give me a rash of shit before I could get another street bike (I am still banned from doing that by the way).

    Re: 07 GSXR750 - A Rebuild Experience

Then the rebuild began with a lot more thought. Steel braded lines, adjustable rear sets, PCIII tuned, DOT tires, warmers, 520 chain and a few other things to make it a respectable track bike. A few months ago a good friend of mine Sal (Hotcarcass) checked the supension and finding that their was only 5MM of sag the suspension was rebuilt for my weight. At one point I considered racing so items such as case covers and saftey wiring were added. Lastly I replaced the plastics and had her painted.

The end result is what you see here. Dont ask me about the cost as I am scared to even think about it. One thing just seemed to lead to another 'have to have' item. Fingers crossed that she can stay this way for awhile.

A special thanks to Sal for helping with a good part of the rebuild (suspension is sweet!)

Not sure about next weekend yet due to it being my wifes birthday. If not I will be at the HPR day for sure.

As far as roads in OK go ya they suck. But from Tulsa it was easy to head over to AR or MO where the roads were better. One highlight road in OK that was kick ass though is Talamena drive.

Joe I'm glad you noticed your peg was slick at HPR or she might not be looking so hot. Your very welcome for the help with your bike. I really appreciate the business.
