    Up shifting problem

For the last few trackdays I've been having problems with my upshifting (on the straights) at Redline. I upshift but the bike doesn't go into the next higer gear. I now literally hold the clutch in a split second longer to make sure its going into gear. Am I letting out the clutch too soon too quickly, or am I not using enough pressure on the gear shift. I feel like I'm shifting smoothly both by clutch and gear shift. Asking before I take it to a shop to have look at.

    Thanks,

Try and push harder on the lever.

If that doesnt help it might be your shift forks going out.

also double check your oil level. Too much, or dirty oil can cause hard shifting

    Re: Up shifting problem

First and foremost, don't shift when your bike redlines, your actually losing power at that point. Try and get your bike on the dyno and see at what RPM your powerband begins falling off; that's when you should be shifting. Example: My 08 R1 power band starts falling off at 12,500 RPMs, so I don't go above that before I shift into the next gear.

Also, try placing pressure on the shifter prior to engaging the clutch. In other words, pre-load the shifter...then pull in the clutch. You may have other issues going on here too, but these are some good tips to shave some time off your laps.

If you havent already....convert to gp shift aka reverse shifting. I have it done to mine and it makes shifting period much easier and smoother regardless if your cruising or at the track.

This would be "clutchless shifting." There is quite a bit of information on the net about this.
