i think the way it works is if your putting the public in danger and they aren't chasing you for robbing a bank or killing someone or the like, they'll probably back off. not a good idea to run no matter the circumstance... way too dangerous for you and everyone else just to get out of a ticket. i learned that lesson the hard way. if your gonna do something stupid be prepared to pay for it if you get caught.

    Re: No chase policy

There is no such thing as a no chase policy.

A PD got sued because they called off a chase to lesses the appearant risk. Car running took off and killed somebody. So because they backed off if was fought that they could have stopped him before that happened. So the PD was sued and lost. So now there is no such thing as a no chase policy.

However there are some cops that are not even going to try and chase you in some situations. But there are still supposed to.

    Re: No chase policy

If I remember, something down in like Alabama there is a no pursuit policy. That if they pull you over, and you take off while they get out of the car, they can't pursue, but they still have your information and probably flag you as fleeing.

With this thread and the other about the bike impounded, just 2 reasons why I avoid cops at all costs. Not because I am doing anything illegal, but because some of them enjoy the power trip.

    Re: No chase policy

^ Even though I normally would disagree with this thought pattern, I am becoming more cynical in this area seeing cops everywhere on a Saturday morning with no traffic or on a Sunday morning no traffic to me them getting the chance to give an easy ticket is wrong they should be stopping people for violation period no matter the time of day or day of week. WTF with the easy days and catches, why not start writing tickets during rush hour for road rage or aggressive driving, tail gating etc.

seriously cops shouldnt even chase you if your going a decent speed, it puts their lives in danger and everyone around at the time, I know it would not be advisable but... Im not saying another word

But they are still responsible still if you take someone out. It is there job to stop you.

Thats like saying oh this guy just robbed a store at gun point we see him but were not chasing him because if we chase him he may shoot someone.
