A little touring on the R1 and Sv650. 2,700 miles last week. Pics.

I know there are lots here that would cringe at the idea of riding their R1 for anything but track use. I personally just like riding the bike. Can't stand the idea of any of the modern pigs they call sport tourers. (that are more tour and not enough sport).

Anyway. Rode from Denver to Las Vegas, L.A, down the coast to San Diego, across the desert to Lake Havasu, The Grand Canyon, and back up through the Colorado rockies home. Managed to stay mostly on 2 lane roads with some forced freeway travel.

Here is the route in google maps. (hope it works)

    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en...938354&t=h&z=8

...and a few pics from the trip.

    Leaving Colorado and entering Utah.

Entering Arizona on the way out. (seat beads help even with the "comfort seat" Just need to change the seating up with that much seat time.

Sorry about the dorky pics with us in them:butt

Riding down the coast. Need to get a video set up or at least something on the bike for action shots.

From 104* to 115* across the desert east of San Diego somewhere.

    Lake Havasu, London bridge

    Hotel bar.

    Old Route 66

    Grand Canyon

    Durango, Co bed and breakfast.

    Silverton, Co

Tons more pics, but this should do.

    Ha ha, no.

I had read about these on the R1 forum before I left for the ride.

    http://www.beadrider.com/

Just changing the pressure points on the seat makes a huge difference from day to day.

I did not order any before we left. However, at one of the truck stops I found this.

30 seconds later with a knife and we had 2.

Figured for $5 a seat we would give it a try. It makes an amazing difference to put these on for a few hundred miles, then take them back off. That way you change up the pressure points on the seat every so often.

Yeah, I built the whole Pelican case mount for the cases. I ride the R1 a lot in town and HATE back packs. Keeps the weight off my body and lower in the total center of gravity.

Nice ride! The pix of the R-1 solo is sick . Glad you two had a fun, safe trip. We'll be in Durango / Silverton this weekend. The web cam shows it dry as of an hour ago.

I agree, it keeps the chi in balance. Those bags have to be nice for the wet. Thats the problem with my cortechs, I have to wrap everything up in trashbags. Looks like a nice system you have. How did the Road 2's fair?

Hey, we crossed paths recently at The 95 and 62 in Vidal Junction, CA--one horse town for sure. I'm down in Yuma at the Marine Corps Air Station instructing Total Control for a week. Great pictures for sure. You look like you had a good memory maker of a trip. Ventura is nice along the coast of Cali for a dinner stop overlooking the waters at sunset.

Nice looking ride. I just have to ask did you see what the R1 can do... and did the Mrs. keep up alright?

Oh well. There was a group of German tourists on Harleys stopped in Vidal. Most of them could hardly ride. One guy could not even figure out how to turn the bike off. Someone else came over to help him. It was pretty scary to watch.

Only gas in Vidal is 87 oct at $3.98 a gallon. If you ever find yourself there DON'T buy gas. It is only a short trip to the next station(to the east).

    Gas in Vidal.

    I plead the 5th.

The R1 is a bit aerodynamically challenged with the hard bags on it. I will say that it pulls like a jet plane above 10K RPM in 6th....somewhere south of here.

    Nice job. I want one.

I hear that German girls like to go topless. But someone, somewhere told that it was taboo here.

Vidal Gas has all those snowbirds for customers. Mobile home communities run up and down the river around those parts. I hear the Germans like to come in the middle of the summer so they can say they survived Death Valley at XXX degrees. Crazy. I'll be traveling up that way again in a few days on the way back to Povertyville, NV.
