    Colorado Voting / Polling Laws?

I just had a very bizarre experience at my polling location in Denver...

After saying my name, the poll worker asked me to present a "valid Photo ID", even though it doesn't necessarily have to have a photo according to Colorado law [Any eligible elector desiring to vote shall show his or her identification as defined in section 1-1-104 (19.5) --- which allows non photo forms of ID such as a utility bill]. I agreed and gave him my Driver's License.

Then, the poll worker folded the log over (to purposefully hide the print from me), and said "now - verify your mailing address for me." I began feeling a little uncomfortable, but proceeded to tell him my address.

He then REACHED BELOW THE TABLE, pulled out a yellow card with print on it, and said "now - you must read outloud this voter declaration, before I can allow you to sign the log." It was a print out of the declaration at the bottom of mail-in ballots, along the lines of "I will only vote once in this election, and I am the person I claim to represent, etc. etc. etc.".

I signed the log, and went to vote.

    _________________________

I have NEVER experienced this EVER during my 11 years of voting in Colorado. Typically, I say my name, show my ID, sign, and vote. I felt like I was getting the 9th degree from the poll worker. Is this procedure standard practice? WTF?

A lot of conservatives are convinced that voter fraud is a huge problem. Sounds like your poll worker was participating in some extra checks to allow for voter challenges.

Yes, but are they legal checks?

I've never heard of a poll working having the authority to make some one verbally verify their residential address. Is that even legal?

They asked me to confirm that I still lived at the address they had on record. That doesn't seem unreasonable.

Hey Dirk - how about the verbal voter declaration? Did you do that too?

Only Republicans are asked to show ID to make sure they only vote once. Democ"RATS"/ACORN members are encouraged to vote multiple times.....even after they're dead!

Pretty much. The idea that there's a bunch of illegals and other non-eligible voters casting ballots in our elections is for the most part limited to conservatives.

It would be nice if this were true, however there is one party that screams bloody murder (and sues everyone in sight) when states enact laws requiring IDs to vote. I, for one, believe that a free and fair election is far more important then someone feeling "intimidated" by having show a driver's license to cast a ballot.

Also I believe that electronic voting machines are the greatest single threat to our democratic republic currently. Black helicopters incoming...

Weird...I was asked what my season batting average was this past year in slow pitch softball.

At least he was trying to do it right. Consider that most of the election volunteers probably got training consisting of a piece of paper full of legalese this morning. The ones where I vote were a little "off" too, but they were doing as best they could.
