    needs some action

    Damn the "drag" forum needs some action! since it's winter, i'll try to spice things up....

    When you get here you will figure out why straight liners aren't all that popular here, we turn a lot out here.

    Curious why you did -2/-2 gearing?

    Gives a 2.75 gear ratio (about the same as going -1/+1) but with the smaller sprockets it stretches the chain out the furthest you can go on chain tension adjustments in the stock swingarm thus giving you a tad more wheelbase. Every 1/4 inch can help when you're trying to fight wheelies all through 1st and 2nd gear.

    Now, to compare apples to apples, and not apples to carrots.
    I didn't think much of the winter hat in the pic, but because I have this kind of time, I decided to find out why you were ripping those 9.5s on a mildly tuned machine.

    The weather data for Cecil County Dragway, according to the Farmers Almanac and nearby weather stations, on that day and that time indicated approximately;

    39 Degrees
    33% Relative Humidity
    30.53 Inches Hg
    535 ft above Sea Level

    Using the Density Altitude Calculator on Dragtimes.com, these data indicate an density altitude of .......................

    1345 Ft Below Sea Level.

    Now, to compare to Bandimere on virtually any Summer Day.
    64 degrees
    21% Relative Humidity
    29.50 mm Hg
    5814 ft above Sea Level

    Yields.....................

    8001 Ft Above Sea Level!
    Crap! No wonder I'm so slow here.
    That difference is like a third of the way up Mt. Everest.

    ^^Very good young grasshopper. To say the weather was favorable that day is maybe a slight understatement, LOL..... I have gone 10.00 @ 142 when the bike was bone stock in the dead heat of summer in Nebraska a few years back. With the few mods the bike has now it's a solid 9.75 on an average day (stock wheel base). I actually have a set of 4-6" swingarm extensions on the bike now, which I never had a chance to take to the track with them, but getting out of the hole is the biggest thing that slowed me down even on my 9.50 runs. I'm pretty positive with the swingarm extensions I could run solid 9.50s all day long even in the heat/regular altitude. BUT only time will tell. I'm going to keep the extensions, but take them off for now and run stock wheel base for a while just to see how fast I can go SWB with minimal mods.

    I used to race cars atlot back east (Etown, atco) and was surprised that bikes ran so slow out here, because of the altitude. I couldn't break into the 11's, and get any better than a 2.1 60' on my 750, but that was with stock gearing, and the rear raised over 1" (road race setup), and I didn't feel like abusing the clutch too much.

    Ya i'm not a hardcore drag racer or anything, just a 1/4 enthusiast like you. If I get to the strip 2-3 times a year for test n tunes I'm happy. Been racing all my life though, with cars/bikes since I was a teen. Have drag raced at over 7-8 different strips across the US, and probably hundreds of public roadways in those times of my poor judgement, lol. To me, drag racing is cheap/easy and addicting, haha. Road racing is real sweet, I would love to build a 600 as a track bike some day, just to expensive for me right now. I don't got the money for tires/plastics/not to mention fixing shit when you wipe out.

    Yeah, Hibs, what I like about the quarter is that you can run an unboosted, non nitrous setup all day long with moderate clutch use, and still ride it home. And it's only $30 for the day around here. I mostly race minis in the summer on kart tracks. That's cheap fun too, and cheap fixes when you crash.

    Yep. That 9.50 timeslip from above, I rode the bike 80 miles to the track, made about 15 passes (fastest street bike there, even beating out the stretched busa and GSXR1000 which were both trailer queens) then rode the bike 80 miles home. Love it!
