    New Doc (Dr.) recommendations?

    Looking for a new primary care doctor. Anyone have experience with the medical group here at Denver West (Cole Blvd)? Or close by? Any CSC docs?

    {United Healthcare network, if that makes any diff}

    Re: New Doc recommendations?

    A big +1 to this... I was actually about to post a similar thread, but I'll piggy-back on this one if I can.

    I'm also a UHC subscriber, and am looking for a PCP in the greater DTC area. Thanks!

    P.S. Dr. Jason Grope sucks.

    Me three! As a "new" Denverite, and a new healthcare provider, I must find a good doc. I have Anthem coverage through my wife, so I will pay close attention to this thread as well

    I see Dr. Sweeney at Sports & Family Medicine in Arvada. He's mostly a Sports Med doc, which is usually the issues I have. He's also the doctor for the Denver Outlaws (outdoor lacrosse).

    Re: New Doc recommendations?

    FWIW we use Provident, but I am not always happy about them. In general they take care of us and have a lot of docs, then again you never see the same doc twice and they're in and out fast because they overbook. I also like to keep tabs on my health, so the last time I went in for a physical I wanted my blood drawn, etc. The doc gave me shit, telling me I was young and didn't need it, then gave me a physical I could have done myself. My 3rd-class "a monkey could pass this" flight physical was more intensive than that one. But, not sure where else would be better. I used to visit Dr Rossi, but his practice was bought by Provident and he moved out to NE Colorado. That sucked as he really took an interest in his patients' well being.

    Re: New Doc recommendations?

    Most insurance websites have a good locator for finding a doc with reviews, specialties, degrees, languages spoke, location, etc. You should use these (or at least check if the doctor you want is on there) because if you go out of network you could be paying high fees or not be covered. If you get a prescription from a PCP watch for what “tier” that drug is on because many insurances will not cover it or will have you pay three times the amount you could get a similar drug for; don’t wait till you get the prescription either to check because to change that you will most likely have to go back to the doctor.

    I avoid primary care providers most the time unless it is for a common cold or flu. UHC and many insurances will let you self refer to a specialist so depending on why you need to go to the doctor. I would go straight to the specialist and bypass the PCP.

    I have been working in insurance healthcare for over 10 years, so be careful because they love to play tricks to make you pay more!!!!

    The director of University of Colorado Hospital's Center for Integrative Medicine (TCIM) is Lisa Corbin, MD. Lisa doesn't have the experience in Nutrition and I found it disturbing on the quantity of miss-information which herself shared. Let alone, is the director of something with-out THE formal training, outside of western medicine. I was respectful during her presentation, through not interrupting by keeping thy mouth shut. After her presentation, I expressed some concerns with 'others'.
