    Won't fire/start

Help! I have an 03 kawi 636. I stoped for lunch the other day and when I was leaving the bike would not start. It will turn over but not fire. I figured it might be a plug issue so I changed the plugs but no luck. anyboyd have any Ideas?

sounds like a fuel issue to me. I doubt it is a spark plug problem. Either no gas, or some kind of disruption/kink in the fuel line. other thoughts is check the air filter to make sure you didn't suck something up in there. air + fuel + spark = go

Sorry but you didn't say if you made sure the kill switch was off. Check the simple things first.

Yup! Checked all the simple and little stupid mistakes that get overlooked sometimes.

So now I'm thinking fuel pump. Should it hum or can I feel it prime if I have the tank up and it runs its little "diagnostic" when I turn on the ignition?

Beating a dead horse, but...kill switch, gas, clutch safety swith, kickstand switch. Bikes don't usually lose fire all of a sudden like that for no reason, good luck with it and keep us posted.

^^agree. Check the fuses after this. Unusual for a bike to start drum and then not start soon after. I'd think dead battery before fuel pump

First, take off all parts that have the words "Kawasaki" written on them, and replace immediately. Then it should work just fine.

j/k Hope you get it started.

If it's cranking then it wouldn't be the kickstand switch. If there's no spark, then it could be your plug wires or coils, but it's odd that they'd just go out almost mid ride. You're holding the plug against the frame and hitting the starter to look for spark, right? Did you check each plug to see if there's spark? If they're all out, I'd go coils. Maybe double check the connections for the wires too in case they came loose or got pulled or something random like that.

check all your connections you have an ignition problem. you may need to have your computer checked it may be bad or your ignition control unit may be bad.

    Re: Won't fire/start

Might just need a new battery. Mine did the same thing twice, I went out for a ride and I stopped for 5 mins but when trying to start up again it would just turn and never fire. The first time I just left it for an hour and came back and it started, second time I had to get a jump - got a new battery (under warranty) and it's been fine sense.

To test for this problem, use a multimeter to check that it is actually charging. Then leave the bike for 3 or so days and check to see if the battery is very low.

I left my bike sitting for it seems like ages. Should have pulled the cables off during the cold winter, but I am letting it trickle charge now so hopefully my battery will be ok. A fully charged battery does make a world of difference.

Have you got it running again? Best way to see if its the battery and not a bad connection with the starter or something is to see if it'll start up with a jump.

    Re: Won't fire/start

Not yet. I work 12 hrs a day so my time is limited till thursday. I have had it on a tender/charger for the last 3 days. Thinking I'll take the battery in to have it low tested tonight if I have time.

Thanks to everybody who has put their two cents in. It has really helped with different ideas and directions. If anybody else has any other Ideas please share. Im trying to get this solved without actually having to take it somewhere.
