has anyone went this way before?

so i grew up in washington state and i guess according to the mom, my trip out there is way overdue. so there is basicly two routes i84 or i90. im thinking of riding the bike out there this summer, and i was wondering if anyone has taking i90 out there. i did the i84 route a few years ago in my truck and it was super boring. just wondering if the i90 route is any better....

Re: has anyone went this way before?

I have a class reunion this summer in northern Idaho, and my planned route is through Yellowstone to the short stretch of 90 till it meets highway 12. 12 goes a bit south and would be a bit out of the way if you're headed to Seattle, but it follows the river valley and winds like a wristwatch.

Never having traveled 84, I couldn't say what I think about it, but I can say that traveling through northern Idaho is far superior in general (if your aim is to enjoy the trip itself) to traveling through southern Idaho.

If I weren't looking to add Yellowstone to my itinerary, I'd probably go 93 north rather than superslab. If I'm taking a trip in my car, I just want to get there--on my bike I prefer to remember the trip itself as part of the fun!

true i will look into those routes squisha. Im heading first to wenatchee, which is close to central wa, about a hr or so from spokane. When i took 90 last year it was super boring, nothing really to look at except for a few good spots, it was mostly wasteland looking terrain..

84 from twin to boise is barren, windy, windy, windy, as gust come through the valley, for the first part and hot as hell during the summer, I have been on parts of 90, and that area is very nice, cour d' lane is simply amazing. are you going to take part of i25 all the way up from wy? I went to a class reunion in mtn home in 08, it reminded me how much I hate 84.

that route looks interesting, it is shorter mileage wise but 5 hrs longer.. hmm as long as there is gas stops were i need them, that might be fun, so many decisions lol

On a bike you don't have to slow down as much for corners... I'm sure you could knock some time off there lol

Re: has anyone went this way before?

Erm, I've done both. Yea, 84 is crap. 90 is certainly better, but it's still super slab the whole way.... Super slab, no matter how you cut is more boring on a bike than in a car, at least for me.... At least I can recline in my lazy-boy of a seat in the car with a good cup of coffee and take the occasional snooze on those long stretched of super-straight highway (that's what bungees are for, right? ) That route NUTZ posted looks like fun though, I'd go that way if I were you.....

That's exactly the route I'd suggest to anyone going that way that didn't intend to detour through the Tetons. I can speak personally for the route from Lolo to Lewiston/Clarkston because I used to live just off highway 12 (It's a gas)--I'm headed to Kooskia, actually. Would you believe they pronounce it "Koo-SKEE"??

are there enough gas stops to make the whole route with out floating on fumes?

so this pic is dark, but i got the tail bag and tank bag last week, 50 bucks for both, the tail bag when expanded can hold a full face helmet and a still has room left over so i dont think i will need a backpack for the trip, plus the tank bag almost doubles when expanded, but then it turns into a chin rest lol. now cant wait for the throttle lock, im looking at a few, i just cant decide which to get.

You may want to wear a Camelback or something? Long rides are easier when you're not thirsty.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you pick up the tank/saddle bags? Thanks!
