    Verizon 4g... WOW!

Just got an HTC Thunderbolt to replace my "aging" 1-year old Nexus One. I gotta say, these 4G Verizon speeds are SICK....

Click the image for the real-world test video. I just shot it this morning in my living room...

Lol, that has to be a Flash bug. Try one of the Java based tests on dslreports.com and see what you get.

If I'm, than I'm absolutely impressed, but that seems artificially high.

AFAIK their is a problem with the upload speeds being reported on the thunderbolt using speedtest, the download is indeed correct though and even if the upload is cut in half that is still damn impressive.

Lets see some videos of you loading webpages ( engadget.com, gizmodo.com, etc. )

Just got 9069kb/s on the "mobile browser" speed test at your dlsreports.com site. Although the test was about 1/3 the duration of the SpeedTest.net app. So I'm betting those DL speeds are legit for larger/sustained downloads.

Also - reports are the same coming in all over the Thunderbolt boards... with some folks reporting 22MB/s + in less populated areas that have 4G coverage.

Remember, 4G is brand new, these rates may decrease as more devices come online. But as of now - they seem to be very real.

That's awesome. I want to jump ship from ATT to Verizon when I get back.

The downstream doesn't seem that bad, honestly it's that 33Mbps upstream that's throwing me off. You get the same/close result on dslreports?

I still have the 14-day test window to run this Thunderbolt and Verizon through the paces, but so far - and with only 2 days of use - I am damn impressed.

I still have my N1 activated on ATT, but if by Weds. I don't find any major flaws, I think I'm going to have to cancel the ATT account. I really thought the simultaneous voice-data would be a deal breaker, but it works on 4G (when available), and for the times I don't have it on VZW 3G, I won't mind due to the (reputed) stability/consistency of the network.

This incredible VZW performance, in addition to crap like this, really makes me wonder how ATT has survived this long.

I've been with AT&T for over 10 years... and I think the time has come to end my relationship with them.

I've been with them for 6. Strangely enough, I have an unlocked N1 too...

Maybe AT&T can just buy up the competition.

They sure as heck need to do something... their 4G fraud is putting them pretty far behind Verizon.

I am sure that this will not go through smoothly. When VZW purchased Altell in 2009(ish) the FCC made VZW sell off a lot of the customers becuase it was making VZW to large. The FCC regulates to ensure there will not be a monolopy in the market and this is why they keep 4 major companies around.

Oh and for the guy with the Thuderbolt. My wife, who works for VZW (and where I use to work), says the phone will work on 3G and 4G for surfing data and voice at the same time. The speeds will be slower but it should still work according to HTC.

    Re: Verizon 4g... WOW!

Like anything it depends on the amount of people on the network at the same time you are.

Here in Monument on my D1 I got 1403kps download and 142kps upload *shrug*

Just tested again and it is lower, yep depends on the traffic at your cell tower location. Still impressive speeds I'm give you that. Expect that to drop a lot as 4G becomes standard.

Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.

Follow the money would be my guess. The fact remains that Verizon (for an example) has guaranteed speeds of a maximum 12mbps. Why am I suppose to get a hard on over that, when true 4G is suppose to be 100mbps? The false advertising (yes, I realize that most adverts are based on fallacies and emotion) is what I've been against.
What's available in the States now should be called 3.5G.

    3.1G

And TRUE 4G is supposed to be 1000Mbps, not 100 , which validates your argument 10x as much.
