What is it with all the Scooter Trash?

I understand the growing popularity of scooters. They are cheap, easy on gas and can be parked anywhere, I don't even think you have to n=have an motorcycle endorsement. But lately I have been noticing these riders getting away with things most of the rest of us would be arrested for.

Case in point, this afternoon I saw a rider on a Vespa doing at least 15 over, in a school zone, no eye protection in flip flops down the middle of the street. Not so bad accept the cop in the school zone didn't even look over as she blew through.

What exactly can these riders get away with?

You must have a license, and obey rules of the road, and act as if you are riding a bicycle. It has been illegal for bicycles to be ridden on a sidewalk, except designated bike trail, and to obey all rules of the road as if it were a regular vehicle.

I don't even think the eye protection law applies to them, since it's not technically a motorcycle.

You would be so surprised at what you can get away with on one of those. I delivered hot dogs in college on a scooter (don't laugh), and I used to drive it on campus, through grass, down stairs, etc. I crashed it too many times so eventually I just quit.
