It peeves me because when I pay an entry fee, I pay to rent the track...why should I pay a gate fee to access the track I paid to rent?
Nonetheless, we're very lucky to have local venues like IMI and $10 is pretty cheap to go hang out with a bunch of guys and girls who like motorcycles and watch some pretty awesome racing. Hell, you can go out and stand pretty much anywhere you want to watch (don't tell anyone I told you that you could do it...)
