    New to the SM

Picked this up a few weeks ago and finally found time to get it on the road....woohooo! Got some nice dirt wheels for it too.

Now I just got to figure out how to ride it, bit different then the R1 or GS

I prefer street to dirt as well. But having the option to do both out here is perfect!!!!

Coming from the street to the dirt...

Sumo tires are just fine for all the highway riding you'll inevitably do and they are adequate for a good deal of trails in the area. Sure in you're into having two wheelsets and all the associated troubles...go for it. Otherwise, I can't see 17's being a worse option for a dual sport.

Switched out the wheels today. Its a full wheelset, same size rotors etc. except different size sprockets , so a fairly quick switch.

I take it you haven't tried to follow him on the dirt?

Once we get back, I need to come try that thing out.

All of that looks completely dooable on a big bike. Wouldn't be as fast as a smaller bike, but still looks fun. It's hard to tell from the vid, but is that last bit really steep up?

    Re: New to the SM

Perspective on these cameras does it no justice. And yes the last part is steep and loose and the entire approach is that way and now the "chicken route" we took to the left is now closed off. Since we were on sumo's we took all the chicken routes going up.

Same trail but w/ dirt wheels and no chickens

Yup, that one has a couple of trickier spots! Esp for a 500lbs bike!
