Back in the day helmets were for pussies! Half the riders at Rampart didn't wear helmets at all, kind of like the quad riders these days.
Sorta like todays gear threads. If you were going for a "serious" ride you wear the gear, if you're just fucking around, there is no real need for it.

As everyone makes fun of the gearless riders in these pic's (mostly to boost their own egos) I say wear what you are comfortable with, it's your skin and it doesn't effect me in the slightest.
The last weekend at the races I rode the parade laps on the track in jeans, T-shirt and tennis shoes, since all they require on a bike is a helmet. I guess I am a squid.

That was one fast f'ing bike, I think they had only been doing disc brakes for a couple of years at that time, the rear was still drum. So they didn't have much problem going fast it was just trying to slow 'em down that got dicey.

Totally! I grew up on 4-wheelers form when I was 10 on, and we never wore helmets. We also weren't going on serious rides in the trees. I can ride my bike just fine when I'm just tooling, but I feel more comfortable when I'm in full gear!
