That is the thought process!!!! Will actually wash the rig in Fairbanks after the trip to Deadhorse/Prudhoe because the stuff they put on the road can clog the shit out of your radiator. Especially if we see wet.
But after that we should be OK. Intent is to head down to Anchorage area afterwards and play in the southern part of the state. I will then run out of time and have to beat feet back while my buddy may not since he is retired from the Army and isn't working yet...
I think the route back will be a ferry to Prince Rupert for a southern return in which case, based on timings of the ferry, may have me doing several 6-700 mile days to make it back to work. Which is a suck.
As a threadjack to my own thread: But that is all OK. I see this trip as a feeler to see what I want to come back to next year with more time. I am signing out of the Army on terminal leave first week in Sep and start a job in the Dominican Republic in late Nov until mid-may (with a motorcycle tour company). Intent is to make/save enough money to be able to play back here in the summer next year and delay finding another job for a little while.....

Probably made for KLR riders.

I just got back from the first leg of this trip. We can't get enough time off in a row to do it all at once. So we just completed 10 days up to and around Vancouver.
Stored the bikes in Seattle and will go back in a couple of months to do another leg. We are planning on just making these two bikes dedicatated trip bikes, ride, store, fly, repeat!
Your crazy man! Have fun though, its a good time of year for the interior. I went during December and would not like to visit again!

quick update. I am connection limited.
Just west of Edmonton. Progress is slower than what I wanted but that is OK. Traveling with another so it adds a little.
BUT, good times! Slabbing it for now but starting tomorrow all should improve. Had to ditch a thunderstorm this afternoon at the local Lowes overhang and buddy had a bird strike that was a puff of feathers and blood/guts just short of the border crossing. BP enjoyed the bloody jacket.
It is 1000 pm and still very light out. Havent needed to camp yet. Just bumming is family owned hotels and drinking good canadian beer.
Terrrain is pretty much a suck. Canada so far has looked like Montana. Montana (eastern)) has looked like eastern Wyoming.....Wyoming like eastern Colorado. Tomorrow should improve as we head west into the mountains and then north.

Awesome!!!
Ride safe and have a great time!
I was wondering about this when I read your initial time frame to complete this.
Having done several long trips I am believing more and more in the "plan to go half as far in twice the time as you think you need" philosophy.
We had a very simple carb issue in Idaho that set us back nearly two days and threatened to set us back 3.
Good luck with the rest of the ride. Get off the 4 lane and the ride gets easier and more enjoyable.
In Fairbanks today. Changed out the street tires for knobbies.
Tomorrow starts Dalton Highway to the Arctic/Coldfoot/Deadhorse/Prudhoe!
John
DAMN!!! you probably wont see this for a few weeks but stay safe up there bud

Headed through Denali then back to Haines, took the ferry to Skagway then down the Cassier Hwy.
Then through Glacier NP, Yellowstone NP and camping, Grand Teton NP and now in nowhere Wyoming. Will make it back to Casa de JohnEffinK tomorrow around lunch.
Will post pics and stats sometime this week. Awesome trip. 22 days and almost 8000 miles.......my a$$ feels fine but my back if fooked (prob 'cause I am old). Bike is trashed. Gear stinks.
John

Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.
