What I miss most about the "old" AMA road racing is the original formula extreme class where it was kind of an unlimited - open class. In fact, I recently saw one of Kurtis Roberts CBR900RR erion FMX bikes for sale. Those bikes were ridiculous, if memory serves they were making well over 200hp in the days when 750cc superbikes made 175hp. There was even a shortened hyabusa that raced in that class, he caught other riders on the straights but lost them in the corners. There is a dude on the east coast whose collection includes a Jake Zemke piloted FMX CBR954RR.

How DARE you try to bring discussions about an old motorcycle racer's bike into a thread about motorcycle racers!

I probably don't have as deep of an appreciation for some of the retired rides as I could, but I have to admit, seeing Wayne Rainey's old bike hanging up at Brother's BBQ was kinda cool. A buddy of mine knew the "Brothers" and knew the story of why the bike was there. I wonder if he still remembers the backstory.

Who said anything about Mladin? I agree, it was boring watching him truck all over the competition.
But I am talking BEFORE the stars aligned for Mladin and Suzuki. This is back in the day when Bruce Transportation, Muzzy had Kawasakis only, some guy named Ferraci was in the pits with his Ducs and Harley even wanted to try roadracing. Or even when Hayden was on an RC51!

Hayden on the RC51 vs Mladin on the GSXR750...that happened in 2000 if I'm not mistaken. I wish I had those old races on dvd.
