Pick the douche - MotoGP edition!

My wife came up with an interesting game. Show the following picture to anyone, preferably someone who doesn't follow MotoGP and isn't going to have a personal opinion already, and ask them to tell you who they think is most likely to be a d-bag.

Since I only recognize 3 faces, I would be one of those that doesn't follow it and I have no idea.

    I don't get this game

No Barn, the question isn't, "which guys are consistently in the top five?" Try again.

Too bad Biaggi isn't running GP anymore, he'd be the winner.

It's simple - show the picture to anyone. Out of the line up who do they think would be most likely to hit on your wife in front of you, leave you with a giant bar tab at the end of a night, or push an old lady into a pool?*

*Other qualifications for being a d-bag exist. Consult the interwebs for more conditions for qualifying as a douche bag.

Even those who are the very best of what they do, can still be d-bags. I know first hand that guys like Hayden, Edwards, Loris C, and others, are much cooler people, than the Biaggi's and Mladen's out there.

Now to comment on their riding skill... For that, I don't have any platform.

Simocelli is clearly the biggest douche in gran prix racing.

    No kidding.

They are motorcycle racers, what more do you want from them, they ride really fast for you entertainment, and yet you want them to be perfect role models or what?

We could always take pics from the CSC and do the same thing. It has nothing to do with who they actually are, but what kind of picture do they take and what are they expressing in the picture. He did say show this to someone who doesn't know who these people are and then ask who is the douche bag. Most of the time people pick someone who isn't really an ass. It just goes to show that you can't judge people by their pic.

I don't really care about them being role models. I've met several top riders over the years, and most were totally awesome people. Others not so much, and I have no problem calling a spade a spade. If they want to ride around for my entertainment that's great, that doesn't preclude commentary on their personality traits.

Hey at least for once the dissing actually is motorcycle related!

It's an exploration into perception, no offense intended (at least not to the people here - if any MotoGP riders are on the board and are offended, I apologize).

On the other end of the spectrum, I have Rossi clearly in the lead as the guy most likely to buy you a beer. Edwards is a shoe-in for the person most likely to stop and help you on the side of the road. Stoner may have the edge as the one who throws a bitchin BBQ and invites everyone in the neighborhood.

Off topic but.. While I don't necessarily care if my 'heros' are role models, did anyone catch some of the riders did a track walk at Barber to benefit tornado victims? What a class thing to do. THAT is what role models do. These pro racers do what I can only dream about - make a buck riding a motorcycle at insane levels. It's awesome to see them do something that isn't the "me me me" you get from many of the top pros in any sport.

Even more off topic.... The AMA Pro Racing seems to be largely ignored on the board, but I still enjoy watching. The series had a couple of set backs, but I think they are on the right path. Why is there no love?

+1 AMA road racing is awesome! Way cool that they did something to benefit a community after a disaster.

When you are used to how much better it used to be before ownership changed and when it was broadcast by SpeedTV, you see how ho-hum AMA RR is now. Don't get me wrong, it isn't BAD, but it certainly isn't like it used to be.

    mehhh...

I know what this thread is getting at, but Marco's the only thing keeping GP exciting this year. Seems like every week, it's another 50 minute parade. Hopefully Marco won't pull a Toseland and tell GP to piss off.
Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change...
Retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting!
Waiting will only leaves us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.

Check out the DSB class...the racing is really exciting! I've been watching AMA road racing since the late 90s..and yes, it used to have higher spec superbikes. BUT, it is nice not to watch one dude run away with all of the races. It got boring knowing that Mladin was gonna win them all. There is no doubt in my mind that he was/is an incredibly talented racer - one of the best ever, IMO....but it certainly didn't hurt that Suzuki spent a million a year or whatever on his bike.

The AMA'ers we had come out to R2SL were the same way. Eboz flew out here on his birthday one year to sign autographs for us at the IMS for half a day, the entire Hayden family showed up at our event at VIR to help raise money, and I could keep naming top racers (and even not so top, but still national level) who gave of their time and even their skills to do something good. Even had Freddie Spencer out one year doing part of the new rider school (those people had no idea what was coming). The ones who are all about themselves are in the minority in this sport for sure, which is great.
