    Ride: Saturday July 16, 2011

    Hey SoCO,

    I'll be hosting a CSC ride for Saturday - July 16th, 2011.

This ride: Colorado Springs to Evergreen.

    The route

    http://mapq.st/ohcHwX

This is a 200 mile round trip variation of the classic Colorado Springs to Evergreen route. It features great Colorado twisty roads and scenery.

Expect to be out with us from 8 AM to 3 PM.

    Times

Morning meet location: Hwy 24 & 8th Street Acorn gas station.
    8:30 AM.
Introductions, map hand out, route and stopping points covered, pep talk.

Gas up as the next fuel stop is 100 miles from here.

    Leave promptly at 9:00 AM.

    Contact Info - Clovis: 719-201-9383

PLEASE NOTE:If you would like to help in the ride, please let me know. Generally speaking each ride needs a leader in the front and a sweeper in the rear.

I've planned the details but I'm fine in any position. CSC club rides are about having a good time, not egos. If you're of the faster crowd and comfortable leading, please send me a PM.

Typically 6-10 riders will come and we'll naturally split into groups of fast and intermediate.

Also, if you happen to have a Scala Rider set up, this is a HUGE plus in general, regardless of riding position.

Link to a review on the Scala Rider communication system:

    http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forum...ad.php?t=40938

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

We'll make a pit stop at the Deckers general store (aka "Deckers"). for about 20 minutes to rest, drink, take some pictures. Bring CASH, they didn't accept debt/credit cards last time I was there.

Continue on Hwy 67 to 285 -- take 285 to Turkey Creek Road. This is a twisty road to Evergreen.

Stop for lunch at Beau Jo's pizza in Evergreen. More pictures.

The route home is the reverse of the way we came. We should have you back home by 3:00 PM

    Ride rules and requirements

I don't like to be a ride Nazi but this comes from experience. The safety and enjoyment of the group is my priority.

    1) You and your bike must be LEGAL.

This means that your tags are current, you carry proof of insurance and you possess a VALID driver's license.

We don't want one of these:

    http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forum...highlight=luna

    2) Gear:

Full leathers is always encouraged but not required. You do need to have the basics though (Helmet, Jacket, Gloves, boots). How much you like your body is up to you.

However, if you show up in a tank top and shorts I will assume you are a squid and are suicidal. I'll ask you to catch us on the next ride with the proper equipment.

    3) Rules:

    Ride safely and courteously.

We'll be using the ever famous "Pace". If you're not familiar with "The Pace", it means riding at a spirited but consistent speed throughout the route. Here is a link:

    http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forum...hread.php?t=40

Remember - when you are riding, you are the public face of the CSC and sport bikes in general. If you ride like an ass hat, then our rides aren't for you.

I'll cover this more in the morning pep talk.

If you're planning on attending, please reply in this thread. Also, I can be reached on my cell at 719-201-9383 if you're running late the morning of the ride (or get lost somewhere along the way).

    Estimated cost

$25-30 for a full fuel tank and lunch.

    Questions??

    Please reply to this thread.

    See you Saturday July 16th!

    -Clovis

You should be fine. We always wait at the next turn off and have an experienced rider running sweep.

Re: Ride: Saturday July 16, 2011

I am interested in the ride, but the whole asking for my ID and TAKING a picture of it is out of the question. I have ridden with a few riders on CSC and this is the first time I have ever heard of taking a picture of someone's identification. Especially the way the world is dealing with ID fraud/ theft I find it a little ridiculous for someone to try and take a picture of another person ID whom they do not know. IF this is a problem then I will not be on this ride, although, I would like to go. And on that note, I am in the military and I can promise that all of my ID, insurance, and registration are up to date and get checked all the time.

Sounds good, I'll try to join ya'll then. I'm pretty sure the sweep rider will be sleeping after every turn off! I'm afraid to lean my bike too far, it was far too much work to paint.

There is not a single piece of information on your ID that risks your identity of being stolen.

Trust me that won't happen to me! Because the cop would get bored of such a slowass pursuit and give up.

I just read that whole post, and while the rider in question did not make the best decision who is to say that even if his bike was registered and he was licsenced that he still would not have ran. That is honestly what some people just do, I have been on a few CSC rides where we passed a trooper and while we technically did not run, we definitely did not stop. The fact that the rider ran and that type of riding is not welcomed on any of the CSC rides, does not constitute letting a stranger take a photo of anyone's ID. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I'm not a stranger, we just met on the internets. Now get in the van!

You make a compelling argument, I'll relent that requirement.

    If you post a ride:
    1. Realize you are responsible for the group. Don't just take off and go nuts. You need to lead the group and make decisions that are smart for the group. If you want to have a fun ride and do what ever you want, go with one or two of your buddies. Group rides have very different dynamics and responsibilities.
    2. Put the date in the title of the thread
    3. Put what type of ride you're going to have in the thread whether it be a nice easy ride or a spirited ride through the canyons.
    4. When you meet up with the people, have a discussion about expectations about passing, speed, skill level etc.
    5. Let people know that you will wait for them at stopping points and they don't need to keep up. If you are not planning on waiting for folks at stopping points, please put that in the thread.
    6. Have a safety talk before you go
    7. If it's a larger group, assign a sweeper so that no one gets left really far behind.

If you go on a posted ride:
    1. Ask questions about the style of ride when you get to the meet up. If it's not the ride for you, PM me and I'll happily go riding with you.
    2. Know your limits!

For everyone...I'll say it once and I'll keep saying it forever...RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE. The road is not the track and and not riding to your level and above a certain level of ego in this sport will probably get you injured or killed (If not, you are very very lucky). If you feel like you are going too fast, you are. SLOW DOWN. Speed does not mean skill. You can not build skill riding at 100%. You can only build skill riding at 70 or 80%. Speed will come, but you will never be able to go as fast on the open road as you do on the track. If you feel like you are running at 100% just to keep up, you don't have the skills to keep up and that's when accidents happen.
Please read the above "quote" from another thread...good info.

I don't think he's saying he'll take a picture of your ID, he's just saying be legal so we have one less problem with the cops.

I'm in, and I'll sweep until Evergreen, then I'm going to split off and go home.

No, he wasn't, it's not mentioned in the original post. I think he was misunderstood.

Ah, yea really excessive and not something I would ever agree too or support. There's being safe and going waaaayyy over the top.

The only reason Luna got in trouble is because he did something that stupid on an official CSC ride for new riders and new members. If he were to pull that on some random posted ride, wouldn't have had the same reaction. I would have just shaken my head and called him a dumbass.
