Any of you gamer geeks out there excited for this? The first one came out back in 2003 and it was awesome, and still is. It remains one of the only MMOFPS games out there aside from maybe WW2OL. They just came out with their first trailer for the game and it looks promising. Plus some of the things they've been talking about during the SOE Fan Faire sound really cool.

All that Military jargon stuff is actually simpler than it seems. A lot of it is just made up, but then some of it refers to things like page numbers in a particular manual.
For example, that tank is an M1. So, tank = M1, but M4 = assualt rifle? M16 = exact same assualt rifle, but longer? Any time you see A1 or C or something after the M whatever, it's just a change to the main model.

Yeah, you also have the M16 and M16A1 to M16A4. You also have M4, and M4A1 with full auto.
SEP I believe stands for Sight Enhancement Package, TC is Tank Commander, CITV is Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer, and TUSK is Tank Urban Surviability Kit. Mainly to combat IEDs, DFCs, EFPs, and snipers. A byproduct of Iraq. Again, IED Improvised Explosive Device, Directional Force Charge, and Explosively Formed Projectiles. EFPs are NASTY, just NASTY.
Sometimes the TUSK equipped tanks have CROWS. (Common Remotely Operated Weapons System as seen in Afghanistan on MRAPs.)

They are two entirely different games.
BF3 will have amazing graphics and physics, but will still only be a max of 32v32.
PS2 will have slightly worse graphics and physics, but they are promising 1000v1000v1000 fights.
The first Planetside at it's peak had something like 300+ per faction fighting on one map. They had to tone it down eventually because the servers were crashing, but they've apparently come up with a way to fix this in PS2 and make the fights even bigger.
Also, I love BF3, but if you want to get into some big discussion about it and any weapons or vehicles in that game, then make a different thread.

They're running full auto on the M4/M16 platforms now?
The M16A1 was full auto (think Vietnam). All following revisions are semi/burst. The M4 is semi/burst. The M4A1 used by SOCOM and the navy to a limited extent is semi/auto. The Army is in the process of procuring a more reliable, accurate, semi/auto, carbine to field.
Who plays on PS2's anymore...PS3 been out for a long time...

Well maybe stop using acronyms out of ones ass when it commonly stands for something else. Would you not say P2...because Planetside is one word...so the S is not needed in PS2!!!

In much of the PC gaming community, PS and PS2 are commonly referred to as Planetside and Planetside 2... it's implied in my original post that I was talking about Planetside and not PlayStation when I said PS. Oh, and PlayStation is also one word.

On topic though, I was mad jelly when Planetside originally came out, because I had neither the rig nor the funds to play it. It was my "want!" game of the time, and the fraps vids from that game still look fun as shit. I may or may not end up picking this up depending on when Diablo 3 gets released.

I can't think of one game SOE hasn't screwed up...and, while I enjoyed PS for a while, it never held my attention all that long. All it became was a series of roving base-hopping, there were no real "epic" battles, at least not in the beta through the first 90days when I was involved with it.
BF may be smaller, but I think it's a better Combined Arms/Tactics game than PS is, and for that I think it's a lot better, even if it's only 64 player (PC, I think 32 or 24 on Console).
PS-2 is going to have to be very impressive and pretty cheap to get me back...especially when there's WoT and other F2P games out there, and even BF or COD is only pay-to-buy, not P2P....
