I'm surprised we don't have more secret squirrels with all the military here.

Liberty never came from government. The history of liberty is a history of resistance. The history of liberty is a history of limitations of government power, not the increase of it. Woodrow Wilson, September 9th, 1912

Hmmm... although I've been in the field for what feels to be eons, I've only been there for about 1.5yrs. Yeah, the new faces since even I've started are overwhelming...including the number of faces that have come and gone even since my first day are staggering. Still holding on to a few of the "legends" tho, and it's always a blast to pull a shift with 'em.
I did the motor officer thing for two years. I enjoyed my time on the bike, but I found I wasn't enjoying it as much towards the end. I probably put on less than 2k miles on my personal bike because I just didn't want to ride after I'd logged 800+ miles during the week. I guess the bottom line was that it was still work. Yeah, it was great being able to do something I really enjoyed, but it was still work. The best days were the ones where I'd make a ton of stops early in the morning. I would stop 3 people an hour for the first 4 or 5 hours, then I'd basically treat the rest of the day like a field trip. I'd ride down to Cripple Creek or up to Deckers, just enjoying the ride.
When we'd do escorts, a lot of them can be pretty annoying because they almost always involve bicyclists. We escort a lot of the major bicycle rides, like the Bicycle Tour of Colorado, MS150, Boulder Bolder, etc., so you aren't just riding around. You typicall have a bunch of other officers and you "ping" off each other. We'd leave about five minutes apart, then the entire day was spent riding next to bicyclists until you caught up to the officer ahead of you, then you'd turn around until you met up with the officer behind you.
Every now and then, we'd get a really cool escort assignment. I escorted Pres. Bush twice and that's a blast. It's a hundred miles an hour for as long as it takes to get him to his destination. I've done the Colorado Grand, which was pretty cool too. You see a lot of awesome classic cars and the folks are actually pretty cool.

The things I have seen....It's terrifying.
After one crash I worked I couldn't ride my bike for a month. I absolutely refuse to ride my bike in the city any more, it's just too dangerous. So I will ride to work, but that is it as far as the city riding goes. There is no one to blame but myself if I go into a mountain turn hot, hit gravel and lay it down. I can live with that. But having someone pull in front of me because they aren't paying attention? It shouldn't happen.
Yield to left turn intersections should be illegal, they cause over 65% of our accidents, and over 80% of the serious injury accidents/fatals since they are either head on or T-bone accidents. You can wait for the next rotation and the green arrow. San Diego has done this, they've eliminated 95% of the yield to turn intersections. Cars wait for the arrow.

60Pan,
I kinda figure this crowd has done their own homework and I...or anyone else in a similar field won't dissuade them (nor would I want to). Hell, I couldn't even talk myself out of a bike!!
From what I've read here (read: lurked), most folks seem to have a pretty good idea that everyone else on the road is trying to kill them. That, in both my professional and personal experience, is 1000000% true.
